Road Cycling on weekend around Zug

Hello. I moved to Zug 2 weeks ago from the summer in Australia! I brought my road bike with me and loads of winter cycling clothes. So I don't want to let the weather stop me and keep cycling at least while temperatures are above 5 degrees! Just don't know any routes. Can anyone indicate a good 2-3 hour route near Zug? Better yet, would anyone be keen to go for a ride this weekend of Nov 28-29??? Anytime is good for me, but mornings are better. Thanks!!! Carolina

Re: Road Cycling on weekend around Zug

Hi,

Welcome to the forum, there are quite a few roadies close to you but quite a few seem to be quiting for the winter. I guess they prefer their turbo trainers! Search the forum for cycling in switzerland there are a few really good threads. Not sure if the temprature is going to plumet but it has been pretty mild November so far. I cycle most days but I am down in Geneva, not sure there is a bad part of Switzerland for cycling.

Re: Road Cycling on weekend around Zug

There are quite a few good routes around Zug depending on if you want flat or climbs.

Long Option:

Head up towards Aegeri then keep going up the hill to Sattel, drop down to Schwyz and over Ibergeregg pass. Drop down to Unteriberg and head towards Einsiedeln and onto Biberbrug. Then go over Ratenpass and return to Zug.

Shorter option.
Head up to Aegeri and ride up Ratenpass. At Bibergbrug turn right and ride up to Sattel. Turn right here again and ride back down to Aegeri and continue back to Zug.

I'm not sure where the roadies have hidden. I'm still mountainbiking at every possibility but haven't heard of any of the regular cyclists mentioning a road ride in a long time.

Re: Road Cycling on weekend around Zug

Another option for a 2-3 hour ride : head up Zugerberg either from Zugerbergstrasse (bus route) or Weinbergstrasse (less traffic and more popular for cyclists); descend from the other side side of the hill toward Aegeri, and return to Zug on Zugerstrasse for a fast straight ride.

I too intend to start riding these routes (including the longer ones above) from Dec onwards, so we might meet on some of them.

And welcome to the forum and Zug

Or go around the Rigi (takes 2.5 hours) Zug -> Arth -> Kussnacht am Rigi -> Weggis -> Brunnen -> Goldau -> Zug.

I live Zug and ride as much as possible all year round - unfortunately I am not around this weekend, but you can shoot me a pm if you like.
