Hi All

We are thinking of going skiing in Mid March 2010. Do you think there will be still snow around at that time? Any suggestions of where to go to guarantee a good week of skiing?

Yes, there should be snow at that time.

I predict that at that point Zermatt will have had the best snowfalls .

The last couple of winters in the Alps generally were very good with plenty of snow until mid April above about 1,200m.

The previous winter was very mild though and the Turin Olympics were very fortunate to get the snow cover they did, only a few weeks before they started the slopes were almost bare.

This winter has started a bit later than the past two and coverage on the lower slopes is minimal - but whi knows what the weather will be doing in March?

IMO on lower south facing slopes it can be dodgy in mid-March, depending on the weather (last year was fine).

We head over to the southern alps later in the season (basically after 1 March unless there's a lot of snow).

Arosa has some great pistes and live concerts at their alphuts in March.
