So we have finally decided to learn skiing. However I am on the lookuot for good ski schools who can bear with 30 year old beginners

We would ideally like to startoff with a full day lesson early Jan (after the peak holiday season is over) and stay overnight (do some night sledding as well )

However it is hard to find an apartment ot hotel for less than an week

Does anyone have an opinion on this school or can recommend one for beginners? or can recommend a place where it would be possible to find a hotel for early jan if I book now

Last year I saw a grown man learning next to the little kids at the Vreni Schneider Ski School (former Olympic champion) in Elm, so maybe try there? I recall them being very friendly.

There is a hotel walking distance from there that we stayed at during the sportferien last year, and it wasn't fully booked. It's nothing overly-special but has clean rooms and the food was pretty good! Oh, and small pool.

Oddly enough I've had three ski lessons in the UK - in Tamworth Snowdome (for a full day) and Castleford SNO!zone.

I mixed it with visiting relatives so it worked out much cheaper than having to fork out for ski passes and in-resort lessons and equipment hire, and I thought the indoor setting was more suited to learning. The fact that I was being taught by a native English speaker (and northerners at that) also helped with some things.

I'd previously had private lessons in a ski resort in France but the instructor seemed more interested in posing for the ladies, and I leaned nothing. In fact it discouraged me from trying again. If my uncle hadn't suggested Tamworth then I would have just given it up as a bad job.

I'm off to Les Deux Alpes with family next week over New Year and I'm looking forward to skiing now.

I'm just learning and have had a few private lessons in different resorts in Switzerland and Germany. The best instructor I have had by far is a guy named Beat with www.active-snow-team.com in Engelberg.
