Minor Hocky / Youth Hockey, Zurich

I have a soon to be 11 year old son from Boston, MA, who might be spending some time near Zurich this summer. He is a very serious hockey player. We would like to find a summer hockey camp or team nearby where he could play and get to know some Swiss children. Any suggestions, contact info would be great. Would also be interested in getting links to any Zurich area youth hockey organizations that travel outside of Switzerland for international play.

Thanks!!!!

Er, Welcome to the Forum.

I must say I had to smile a little at your Profile. It looks as if the new software which has just been installed no longer leaves 'Interests' blank if you don't enter anything. It now says 'None'.

Just in case you think Patxi is not being very helpful, there are four types played here.

Ice Hockey, Land/Field hockey, Inline Hockey, Unihockey.

If you still need info after looking at the links, PM me. Uncle B is from Shrewsbury, MA and plays on one of the Men's teams here. He's happy to ask around for you.

DWR MASS,

You asked about youth hockey in Zürich area....

My 14 and 12 year old sons play for the ZSC Lions Club... As they started their hockey careers in the US, we also skated year round as your son does...

Here in Zürich they melt the ice (I mean the indoor ice as most of the practices take place outdoors from October till March!!) end of March. Our teams travel to some international tournaments in spring, not in the summer. Through the summer the teams mainly do off ice training + they have their team camps on ice for a week or two during the summer out of the Zürich area.

Last summer someone recommended the following camps when I was looking for more ice during the summer. I have no experience with these as we ended up traveling back to US:

www.verbier-hockey-school.com
Summer hockey camps in beautiful Verbier with mountainbiking, swimming etc. with international participants, language mainly french but also english. Beautiful location for a family holiday.

www.abhockeyschule.ch
Summer hockey camp at Sports-Center Huttwil, mostly swiss participants. All professional coaches, excellent pre-season preparation.

Hope this helps,

FinnMom

Thank you for your reply Finn Mom. Quite a performance (upset win) by Switzerland against Russia last night in the World Junior tournament.

I have see the Lions listed as participating in the Quebec tournament each year. I will follow up with the links.

Re: Minor Hocky, Youth Hockey

Hi,

Just to add to FinnMom's answer, Dubendorf ice rink did not melt down their ice last summer. I'm not sure whether they plan to or not this coming summer, however if they aren't, i'm sure the club will run a few hockey camps.

www.ehcd.ch should keep you up to date.
