| | | Let hostilities resume. Man Utd v Leeds Utd. 3rd round FA Cup, Sunday 3rd January.
This weekend is the FA Cup 3rd round when the Premiership teams enter the competition and the draw of the round is clearly on Sunday when Manchester United host Leeds United at Old Trafford. There's a good article in todays Daily Telegraph by Henry Winter about the rivalries that exist between these 2 clubs (going back to the War of the Roses - well, football didn't exist then but the war between the houses of Lancaster & York was almost as important). As Grayson (Leeds' manager) is quoted in the article | Quote: | | | | When teams go from the Premier League to League One as we are now, that rivalry can dwindle away. So it is a testament to us that Man United hate us probably as much as they did when we played them on a regular basis. | | | | | As a Leeds fan I can say I have never supported my team more than now - even though, or maybe because, we are in the old 3rd Division. We have a higher home attendance than many teams in the Premiership and can get 4000 fans to travel 250 odd miles on a Tuesday evening to see Leeds play at Bristol Rovers. Leeds have sold 9000 tickets for the Old Trafford game and they could certainly have sold another 20,000.
I don't honestly expect Leeds will win, but anything is possible in the 3rd round and the players are really up for it. The game kicks off at 14.00 our time and can be seen live on ITV 1 (which I can get on Zattoo). I've been told that it may be live on a German channel but I can't find a link. If anyone knows for sure, please post it here.
Your predictions and comments please - even if you are a Man U fan from Guildford

Interesting comments from Grayson. I don't notice anyone from Man U announcing that they have any sort of on-going rivalry with Leeds these days. I'm not sure rivalries really work when they're one-way.
Speaking as a Man U fan, I can honestly say that I didn't know that Leeds even had a team any more*
*Ok, I might just be stirring things up

Mind, you can't tell if those are genuine fans from the Trafford area of Manchester (those that I have met have been top blokes) or from some rural areas of ..... Surrey |

No one could ever accuse you of being a glory seeker, my f^5kwit of a brother went from supporting Leeds to supporting MU as they fell from grace. I admire your commitment and for that I hope that Leeds win.

I actually think the game against Dirty Leeds (for that is their full name) will be a decent battle. Sir Alex has already stated that he'll be playing a full-strength team but I don't think its a foregone conclusion.
DSF often cover FA Cup matches (they have Reading v Liverpool this evening) but they're not showing tomorrows match. It's on France 4 though, if that helps.

Any recommendation for a sports bar to watch this game?

Unfortunately there aren't any round here.

Oops. I fear that Beckfords goal may have come a little too early. Rather enjoyable though! |

Yep. I'd love to a fly on the wall in the Manu dressing room at half time. Fergie will not be happy as Leeds are looking pretty comfortable.

Real game starts at 5pm though :P | | | | | Of course. But leading 1-0 and them being booed off at half time is victory enough for most Leeds fans. It's clear who has the most passion. The fans as well as the players.

5 mins to go (plus about 20 Fergie mins extra time) and we might hold on. Leeds still in control.

Congrats to Leeds. They wanted it more and they got it.
The worst thing is that now we'll have to put with the BBC going on and on about "the magic of the FA Cup"...

Leeds really were the best team and every player fought for every ball. The first time since 1981 (?) that we have beat them at Old Trafford and for us to now be a 3rd Div team (but not for long) really shows what a massive result this is.
And Fergie has refused to come out to talk to the press. I guess he must be sulking. |

From what I saw, Leeds didnt play like any 3rd division team. They had conviction and belief to take on one of the biggest teams. Beautiful.
