Specific Andermatt/Snow&Rail Question

I apologise for being "That Guy" who registers on the forum just to ask a question, but that's exactly what I'm doing.

I'm flying to Zürich tomorrow night for a weekend trip to Andermatt. I've just run across the Snow&Rail deal, but I'm having trouble wrapping my head around this (and I fully accept that this may be due to my being thick).

So here's the situation.
I arrive tomorrow evening and get the train to Andermatt, returning very early on Monday in order to be back in the office in the mid-afternoon.

I have a halbtax card.

From what I can tell, the sbb website is telling me that I can make use of this Snow&Rail deal from Zürich HBF for CHF 67.80 for a one day ticket and then a CHF 35.20 reduction against the second day for my skipass. So far so good.

Would I be correct in assuming that I can also purchase this from the airport? Maybe it costs a couple Francs more, but fine.

Can I make use of this special even though I'm traveling on Friday and Monday but skiing on Saturday and Sunday?

The sbb site says the rail ticket gets me to Göschenen. But Göschenen is not Andermatt. What gives? I understand the MGB is free with your ski pass (from Göschenen as well?), but only from 8:00 to 18:00, and if I'm skiing on Saturday and Sunday that doesn't really do me any good anyway, right? Or have I misunderstood something?

So, would I need to buy a ticket from Göschenen to Andermatt in addition to the Snow&Rail ticket?

I assume that when I buy the rail ticket, they give me a voucher to use at the lift ticket office, right?

I think that's all. Many thanks to anyone who responds to this.

Don't know about your other questions, but you can get the Snow and Rail deals from any station. They're even available from the touchscreen machines.

Re: Specific Andermatt/Snow&Rail Question

I'm 90% sure the travelling days you have mentioned will be fine but if in doubt it is best to just ask someone at a ticket desk. So far I have found them to be really helpful when confused. The friday is definately covered but the monday is the one i do not want to say a firm yes to

Re: Specific Andermatt/Snow&Rail Question

Thanks. I guess I've been conditioned by the general rudeness and complete lack of knowledge from Deutsche Bahn employees to assume rail workers are that way everywhere. Come to think of it, I've only had positive experiences when dealing with Swiss rail.

But anyway, it could be tight to make our train after our flight, so I'd like to go to the ticket counter with as much information as possible.

Again, all help is appreciated.

Re: Specific Andermatt/Snow&Rail Question

Snow and rail deals usually cover all transport to the resort - in my experience (which admitedly is limited with snow and rail) those resorts without some form of direct (public) access to the resort don't have snow and rail deals... This means you may have to change to a post bus or cable car or similar, but should usually be covered...

Re: Specific Andermatt/Snow&Rail Question

Back from the weekend trip. Thank you again to those who responded.

An update in case anyone cares.

A two day ski pass on the Snow&Rail allows four days between travel, so travel on Friday and Monday was no problem.

The man at the ticket counter conceded that I had a good point regarding the ticket only being good to Göschenen and was rather confused himself. After a little checking yround he printed me out a ticket good all the way to Andermatt. It wouldn't have mattered anyway, as nobody checked tickets on the Göschenen-Andermatt route in either direction.

The skiing was great, and Andermatt is a nice little village. It was snowing when we arrived Friday night, and Saturday had a decent amount of fresh powder under partly cloudy skies. Sunday was snow, fog, and at times white-out conditions. However, from just above the middle station it actually brighten up a little after about 1:30, and the sun actually came out around 3:00. While most people were either sitting in the bar at the middle station or had already taken the tram down to the completely fogged in village, I had all that fresh snow to myself. After about 2:00, there were maybe 10 other people in each tram up. Fantastic.

Thanks for the update - it's always nice to get the feedback from an OP. It makes the thread complete and it becomes a useful entity if people in future have the same question. They can now search - and get an answer.

As Tom said, thanks for the update. Glad it all worked out fine.

Having Göschenen as the destination rather than Andermatt did seem rather odd.

Sounds like you got virtually identical weather to when I visited over Christmas. The lift operators were advising that it was pointless taking the lift to the top station due to the white-out at that time. That made it very busy at the middle station.
