Basel - Cycling companion not too far, not too fast!

I live in Basel and would like to find a biking companion, either within this area, or taking a day trip by train, then biking.

My level would be "fun" and by this I mean just easy cycling, not for sport per se...

Re: bicycling companion

I think in spite of your wanting 'fun' and not 'sport' this Thread really belongs in Sports/Fitness so I've moved it there.

If you want to stop the keen types from replying to this (just looking at the first line of their posts makes me feel exhausted), we could add something to the title along the lines of 'bicycling companion for <80km runs at <25km/h' That will put them RIGHT off I assure you.

Re: bicycling companion

In the vein of the long-standing chicken or egg quandry, I must ask what came first: the quest for the bicycling companion, or the dinner party?

Right you are. But I became a cyclist after having a stomach that, shall we say, had not been empty too terribly often....

Re: bicycling companion

I'm up for this. I'm also up for short (e.g. one night away Sat/Sun) tours. I plan to cycle around the Bodensee some time this year. It's flat, and you can bail out at any time you get bored, or tired, and take the train home. A couple of friends spent just over a week doing that two years ago.

However, I'm need to buy a bike first as this time I'm not bringing my bike from London. It's hard to cycle without a bike ;)

There's a big bike sale in Basel this coming Saturday. http://www.velomaerkte.ch/bike_basel.php

Failing that, I've got my eye on something stupidly expensive (for a standard trekking/hybrid bike anyway) bike in a shop in Germany.

I'd enjoy a bit of fun cycling too, now that the weather's cheering up. Are you thinking of weekends or during the week?

Re: Basel - Cycling companion not too far, not too fast!

For me, as I work office hours, I'd be looking at weekends (with lunch along the way!) or evenings.

I've not seen people pu their bikeson trams here, but I assume it's alowed? We could take a tram out of the town centre to the end of the line somewhere, and cycle back. We can do that one evening.

However, don't wait for me, I've not even bought a bike yet!

Re: Basel - Cycling companion not too far, not too fast!

I'll post this in this thread before opening a new thread

The EF Supertouring comunity will soon start to organise the too-fast/too-long/needs-2-days-to-recover rides in Zürich soon.

I'd like to see if there is a group of enthusiast cyclists in Zürich or the vecinity who would like to do :

1. medium level sportive-touring rides
2. soft pace touring rides

By medium level sportive touring I refer something like longbyt described so something around 50-70km runs at around 26-30kmh with some moderate rolling hills and some short climbs, sportive bikes and clothing are needed.

By soft touring rides I refer to mostly flat rides around lakes on the road or through valleys off-road along riverside forests. A touring or moutain bike and relaxed clothing would be needed. some 30-50km runs at around 15-20kmh with picnic/drinks in the middle.

Probably this thread is not the best place for this post because it has Basel on the title, but I guess it could also help you guys who are starting to organise this kind of events there.

The more sportive ones who prefer centurys and lots of climbing and suffering can join the regular supertourers on their adventures.

Re: Basel - Cycling companion not too far, not too fast!

I'm up for the medium level rides/relaxed clothing. There seems to be enough interest but no-one is stepping up to the mark to organise it. If someone can recommend a route I will nominate a day/meeting place in May. Who knows a good route in the Zurich/Luzern environs?

I can't do next weekend, I'm in Zermatt. If it slips a week, I'm in.

I'm from Basel as well and I could recommend the so called RTF's (Radtouristikfahrten) starting soon. Here you find good overview. You decide you speed etc.
Many shops are offering bike tours in different speed levels. I now one shop as well. Here the overview. If you need help for translation let me know.

Have fun. I enjoy them always and maybe we will meet once there.
