Ship or sell a road bike

Hi all,
soon i will move to Zurich and i have to evaluate whether selling or ship my road bike. I started cycling here in California thus i am not used to the European costs.
How much would it cost to buy a decent Road bike in ZH? used or new?

I currently have an Argon 18, full ultegra, with Aluminum frame and carbon fork.

Thank you for the help!!

Re: Ship or sell a road bike

there are many on this forum with much, much more bike knowledge, but from the time factor of getting a new bike and being ready to ride upon arrival, I'd bring my old bike and re-evaluate whether to sell and upgrade once here.

Welcome to the EF, I'm sure you will find lots of replies from the bike gurus at no time. I'm pretty sure though that if you own a decent bike it will be well worth it to have it shipped over to Switzerland as the good bikes are known to be very expensive here and we are talking about of at least a factor of two or three times more than it the US. I have done my search in many shops around CH and unfortunately prices are horrendous here. Sometimes it's good idea to go across a border to buy a bike and make it dirty so that the custom won't charge you duty. It might sound as a cheap trick but it works and it will save you a lot in along run

You can take your bike as part of your baggage allowance on a BA flight, or if your are already checking bags I think it costs about £90. There will be other airlines that do this too, but here is the BA link, (I didn't check the current price):

If you're happy with your current bike then certainly bring it with you.
