Thought I'd let people know that the tourist office here in Davos Klosters is focusing on MTB this year. They have done the following things:

Commissioned a Single Trail bike map of the area to replace the old Bike Explorer one it's 1:50,000 scale so covers a bigger area although some detail is lost (the Bike Explorer one was 1:40,000), but now routes like the Duranpass and the Kesch Hutte are included on one map.

Updated a lot of the maroon signs and having been riding the last month or so, I think it's a vast improvement.

Built (or building) a new freeride route from the Gotschnagrat

Added new routes like the Altezugenschlucht to the signs (I did this last week and it's pretty cool - loads of single trail) and a tour on Pischa which I can't wait to try. Plus they have added a Bergbahnen tour which looks intense.

They have brought out a free (german only) route guide magazine which I see has been distributed in some Swiss bike mags.

All in all a good year to be on a bike in Davos - can't wait for the snow to clear.

I have been working on a website that covers a lot of MTB and Hiking routes in Davos Klosters, shuold be online in two weeks or so, will update when it's up.

Where have you been riding? I can't get up anywhere past the snow that gives me a longer ride than 45mins. Driving me absolutely bonkers the weather here. They have improved the signage though, this is true.

yeah and they've got an awesome bergbahn ride advertised - 10,000m height difference - freeride downhill - but you have to be fit to make the different times to get the lifts/bahns etc. up so you can make it all in a day

I did the Altezugenschlucht tour, 2 weeks ago, no snow on that, 44km lots of singletrail.

Also done the Sertigtal tour, starting at Glaris, upto Rinerhorn then a lovely singletrail to Sertig (some snow, but not enough to care) then round to Clavadel on Singletrail, one of my fave ride.

Up to Teufi off road, down, then up to In den Buelen (on road) across bunda then up to Tschuggen before heading down the Fluela back to dorf.

Davos to Klosters.


Today are started in Platz, went to Stafelalp, then down to Glaris, short circuit, pretty easy.


I think going up at the moment is always going to lead to snow, I've been mainly trying to head across Can't wait for the summer to properly start.

I've done nearly all the trails in that 11,000m tour. Its certainly a big day but doable. Quite a lot of the trails can be ridden with a good bit of pace, but there are also some quite blocked up technical sections.

One of the great things about biking in Davos though is the ability to bike somewhere else at the end of the day and to be able to do it almost entirely on singletrail. One of my favourite days last year was spending a day trailriding in Davos, and then riding trail most of the way to get the train in Chur at the end of the day via Arosa and Tschiertschen.

BTW Harriet and Patrick, is the Parsenn Rapid seat lift definitely going to carry bikes this summer with the top of the Funicular closed?

Thats what we've been told but the marketing people were not 100% sure.

I assume they will do something similar to the chair in Lenzerheide where the bike is hung from the back of the chair.

As soon as it opens I'll go up there, try it and report back

I'm sure I've seen somewhere that you can ride this with some guy from ride magazine at various times in the year.

I've done most of the routes at some point and mostly it's pretty cool - the only one that is way too intense for me is section 6 (thier magazine describes section 6 and section 5 round the wrong way BTW), Gotschna to Schwarzseealp which is about 200% above my ability level - I've always assumed I'd taken a wrong turn here before but no, seems I'm just a scaredy

Or like Flims or Filzbach where its hung off the side. Personally I prefer the hanging on the back method but I'll take what we can get.

Good to hear the Rinnerhorn to Sertig trail is clear. Its one of my favourites I might take a trip up this weekend. Maybe do Chur - Lenzerheide - Tiefencastle - Filisur - Wiesen - Zungenschluct - Glaris (lift up in Rinnerhorn) - Sertig - Clavadel - Wolfgangpass - Klosters (Train home).

Nice long ride and the majority on singletrail.

Yea that is quite technical but a nice challenge. I had a few scary moments when I did that one. Might be time to try again.

Yup you can.

In Davos Dorf you can hire in Fluela sports - they have Stevens bikes.
You can also normally hire from the Bahnhof Terminus hotel at Davos Platz, but this year so far I have not seen any bikes. You can also hire from Ettinger and Angerer in Platz.

In Klosters I think you can hire from Duty and Bardill

Not all the lifts are open yet - thats around July 5th and something to bare in mind.

the youth palace (youth hostel) is great to stay in in Davos...

There are some lift opening dates listed here.

So I went to Weissfluhjich yesterday, and the Rapid chairlift is carrying one bike at a time on every other chair, it hooks on to the side similar to a gondelbahn.

On a side note I caught the 08:20 train and it was packed with bikers all doing this 10,000hm tour. Never seen more than about 5 people on the train before, the sales stuff were struggling.

Also there is still a fair amount of snow up there, not only at Weissfluhjoch but also at the Gotschna on the north sides.
