Anyone heard of this bike ride near Appenzell? It takes place on both Saturday and Sunday June 26th/27th: http://www.veloclub-andwil-arnegg.ch/ (click on the yellow links on the left side, e.g. Touren or Info).


From what I understand it's not a race by any means: there is no mass start, no timing chips and most participants will probably be twice my age. I'm guessing it should be quite relaxed and friendly.
The start is in Andwil, 2kms away from Gossau, which is 1hr away from Zurich.
Fees are 28.- and there is no need to sign up before the event.


There are 3 different rides (65k, 141k and 171k), all of them reasonably hilly (1100m, 2250m and 3250m of climbing, respectively). Since the weather should be nice and sunny, I was planning to go for the longest one (not sure if that will be Saturday or Sunday, though).

Sorry I didn't see this post before now. Did you go? I did the 141km route on Sunday, it was a scorcher. Fantastic landscape. I did the shorter route because I rode a total of 135km the previous day riding the Seebacher Rundfahrt. And yes, I am possibly twice your age .

I am glad you enjoyed it. We did the 171km route on Saturday as planned and it was a great ride. The landscapes over there are indeed fantastic and the route was almost traffic free for the most part.

ps: it's quite comforting to know that there is still a chance I can do 280kms over one week-end when I double my age
