Cycling in Davos

Has anyone taken their mountain bike up on the lifts at Davos? I did it last year with a few friends and it was fun, if entirely terrifying in places.

Does anyone know any good paths in Davos, where you can take the one of the lifts up (either Parsenn or Jakobshorn) and cycle back down in such a way that death is unlikely to feature? I've checked out the website and it seems there's a lot of paths, but from previous experience the descriptions are a little misleading.

I'm not a hardcore downhill nutjob, I'm just into going up the mountain, taking in the views, getting some freshair and doing some exercise (and before anyone says, yes, I'm quite aware that I'd get exercise if I cycled UP the mountain as well, but I don't want to do that in this particular instance!)

Any tips gratefully accepted.

Cheers!

Fraser

Re: Cycling in Davos

The Jakobshorn only has routes from the midstation (Jschalp), there is a good singletrack route to clavadeler Alp, which then goes down to Clavadel on a gravel road, then head back onto single track and gravel to Davos Platz.

From the Parsen, you can get off at the Middlestation and do the Panoramaweg singletrack - towards Klosters is best, at the Parsennhutte you can head down towards Wolfgang or across to the Schwarzseealp and then back to Wolfgang.

A fairly difficult route can be done from the Weissfluhjoch, down the Hauptertalli Lots of rocks, then very narrow singletrack), over the strela and back along the Panoramaweg to the Parsenn middle station.

The rinerhorn is definately worth a mention, there is a great route from the top station via Oberalp to Monstein (awesome singletrack), then back to Glaris (Rinerhorn station) you can extend by heading from the Spina restaurant to Junkerboden and back to Davos Platz (some singletrack).

There is so much biking in Davos, Ive been here 3 years and not even scratched the surface.

Re: Cycling in Davos

Not to mention the trails down to Duranapass and Langweiss. The trail via Tritt to Megerdanalp or Gotschnagratt to Davos Wolfgang.

Your tip of Weissfluhjoch to Strela and on to the Panoramaweg is excellent though. I've done it about 4 times last year and it was amazing every time.

Re: Cycling in Davos

BTW:

Jakobshorn Mid station opens 13th June
Parsenn Opens 4th July

Rinerhorn is already open.

There is an extension you can do to the strela route, instead of heading along the Panoramaweg, keep going along the ridge, past the old ski area (rumoured to be opening again in the next few years!) to a place called Maienfelder Furgga, then a very ticky (for me) descent to Stafelalp, then down to Glaris and back to Davos.

Cheers for the heads up. May be in the region this weekend.

I think I have already done part of this. But instead of heading down towards Glaris we went west from Latschüellfurga and down through Tritt to Arosa. Stunning scenery around there.

I might try the descent to Glaris in the next few weeks.

Cheers.

If you carry on from Strela past Latschüellfurga up to Körbshorn and then to the Körbshornhütte then there is a crazy descent to Stafelalp. Quite a bit of carrying but several sections that prompted spontanious manic laughter and Eire-esque "woo-hoos".

Hello there, all great info thanks. I'm writing an article on MTB for Swisster.ch and wondered if I could give you a call to talk about your MTB plans for the summer?
Many thanks
