Re: Action Sports Video Thread.

Looks like it will take awhile to watch all the videos posted in this thread

But now that I just got the gopro for xmas I am looking for some accessories, I found two online stores here in Switzerland, digitec and hdcam.

Are there any other/better or are they the best ones? also is there anyone who has them in store such as mediamarkt etc? (Im in the Zurich area).

Oschner Sports have them in store according to their website.

Personally, I bought from Digitec.ch and it was available for collection from their store in Lausanne the next day.

Re: Action Sports Video Thread.

Best place (cheapest) I found:

http://pointofviewcameras.com/

They have a UK store too. I bought it as a bundle. They have different bundles now.

My home made vid:

Don't think the HD was transferred well when I uploaded it.

I did some 'deep water soloing' over a lake too (I didn't make it to the top, slipped and fell into 4 feet of water :S, camera ran out of memory)

Re: Action Sports Video Thread.

Hi guys,

So just about to order the Gopro Hero 2 and wanted to ask some advice.

I want it for snowboarding and slalom/longboard skateboarding.

1) is it worth buying the surf extension for snowboarding? I read before in this thread that it doesnt stick so well in the cold?

2) Does the chestmount make sense for snowboarding?

3) Any other advice on the best mounting option?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Action Sports Video Thread.

IMHO the Rollei Helmetcam works better - with the bar mount running through vent holes on the helmet. (downside of the rollei is poor battery life)

Otherwise the GoPro front mounted on your helmet is the best option - just make sure you get the angle right and don't snowboard into the sun.

You won't be able to take goggles on/off very easily though

This thing is small and handy:

Good to hold on to to film yourself and others. There is also the wrist attachment.

If you do stick it to your snowboard make sure you have a leash. The chest mount works if you have the attachments to point the camera 90 d. (check out the woods section of my "powder turns" video above.
Other mounting options is determined by your own creativity. Check out this vid. (R.I.P Jamie Pierre)

Fishing string works good. Make sure the leash is attached from the camera housing to your bindings.

WARNING: GoPro2 in the cold - Problems

From the hang gliding community at:

www.ozreport.com

Shaun O'Neill <<oneill.shaunr>> writes:

A major problem with the GoPro HD2, they do not like low temperatures or, more specifically, booting up from being cold (approx 2C and below). Mine, bought in the states in early Nov 2012 has exhibited all sorts of problems such as poor battery life, pixelated video from the 3rd film segment (1:30hr onwards) and now suffers the low temp problem (half black video with sound). Are these cameras just rich boy gadgets for filming birthday parties?

http://goprouser.freeforums.org/go-p...-t5648-30.html

I received the following reply from Go Pro support. They are aware of the glitch apparently and issued the following with a solution to update to firmware v.70 I have taken mine back to the outlet I bought it from and am awaiting a new one. I'll have to check and see if it contains the latest firmware. Good luck all!!

"We're sorry to hear about the image quality issues you are experiencing with your HD HERO2 camera.

We have recently discovered some 'bugs' in the camera's firmware that can cause the issue you are experiencing. We have corrected this problem through a newer firmware that has been released. Please be sure to update your camera to the latest version by following the instructions in the below link:

http://gopro.com/support/hd-hero2-firmware-update/

Hopefully this gets everything working for you. Please let us know if you have any further issues, and our apologies for any inconvenience caused."
Many Thanks,

Re: Action Sports Video Thread.

incredible camera for money, but it's far from problem free. For underwater usage, either use stock case and get very blurry videos (something like 320x240 px stretched to 1080p size), or buy blurfix adapter for another 80 USD (from USA). Problem is so big that there are several companies making money just on making usable underwater housings, but they all have some vignetting in some modes (960p, stills). Official housing is being postponed for last half a year ("next month"). There is quite a lot of warranty claims, so better shop Hero 2 here then somewhere else ... and it's surprisingly comparable (299 USD vs 299 CHF).
There have been some firmware updates, which for some users fix some problems and introduce another, etc... just google and see

Re: Action Sports Video Thread.

And there are other cameras out there:

http://contour.com/products

Don't count them out. Look at all the specs to decide which one is right for you.
