Yes, nice vid.

I'm also going to get a GoPro HD.

I have a helmet cam from another brand, but the videos are completely and utterly rubbish, you can barely distinguish what the hell is going on!

Cant wait to try the GoPro.. hopefully it makes me look like a hero

Windham MTB WC Downhill finals from Sunday: http://video.mpora.com/watch/TFaxayE1y/hd/true

Awesome day for the Brits, Peaty qualifyed 1st and was over a second up on Gee on his race run before crashing out.
Rachel coming back from injury to win the womens and Gee taking the win and the overall World Cup series.

Great final to an awesome season, proper balls out fast track too.

Roll on the World Champs next week

Edit: Re the GoPro. Haven't got one myself, but a couple of friends have. Great cam and I love the chest mount, gives a great perspective for mountain biking. Another vid of Gee with the GoPro strapped to him: http://video.mpora.com/watch/j1j8oi2tx/

The Gopro has to be the most competitive video camera out there. The Quality/size/price is unbelievable. For that kind of picture and sound quality (very minimal wind noise) you could easily pay +100 times for the price of the gopro.

another vid. Gopro of course. And from one of my favorite Colorado drinking towns. Breckenridge!

Out of interest why did you choose the Gopro over the

VholdR

or the

Two words...

CHEST MOUNT

plus the gopro seems to be more rugged and give a better video quality.

15 year old Phillip Koester kicking a$$ at one of the windiest spots on the windsurf world tour.

Rene Wildhaber making tech look flow.

One of my own.

Basically what Eire said. Plus no cables, better video quality and cheaper. The other brands offer a lesser product for a higher price. If you dont belive us then look at almost every single review. And if you do manage to break it you can replace the housing and lens without having to buy a whole new camera. Looking foward to the chest mount, it seems to provide better bike vids.

Sweet video Eire. What program do you use for editing?
(I still cant belive how that little camera delivers professional quality)
Mine was last tracked in Paris, hopefully I get a ring at the door tomorrow.

Bike vid with gopro chest mount. I read on a MTB Review forum that if you turn the camera upside down it has a much better forward view for the chest mount. You just have to flip it when you edit it. Also to record in a slower speed takes out some of the trail chatter. This one has a bit of trail chatter.

Re: Action Sports Video Thread.

Here is question for anyone that has the gopro HD. I notice with some videos on youtube that the quality is not as good as others (this is the HD version viewing on the 360p mode) is this due to the editing programm? What is a good programm for editing?

Re: Action Sports Video Thread.

The quality difference between the gopro and the VholdR seem to be pretty negligible. The main reasons for choosing one over the other from these two are form factor and waterproofness. The formfactor for the VholdR is a bullet cam so can be strapped to certain things easier but won't really work for other functions such as chest mount. For me its a very close call between the VholdR and GoPro when I get my next head cam. The GoPro is winning mainly because of waterproofness (and the chest mount!)

Also the VholdR needs to be plugged into a computer to set things like exposure or to change frame rate etc. I'm not sure if this is the case with the GoPro or if you can do it on the device itself. If so it makes it a bit more user friendly to change settings out in the wilds.

The film I put up was done using an Actioncam 520 plugged into a DV camcorder. Wires were a bit of a pain in the a$$ plus waterproofing the whole system to take it on the water.

I use Adobe Premier for editing.

The gopro seems to provide a smoother video and less wind audio, but the VholdR has better quality when the lighting conditions are not so good.
They both are very similar and with the right setup and editing you can make one look better than the other, but like you said before, gopro is more rugged, waterproof, and has the chest mount. SOLD.

The wind noise is a non issue. For most cases I remove the sound track and add music when I am editing. If you leave too much noise then it interferes with the music and causes artefacts. I usually only ever leave in a very few sounds like a water crossing, or maybe the sound of impact after a jump etc. The noise reduction on the cameras is just a filter anyway which can be worked around in the editing software in the end.

I think the key to making it look good is the software you use at the end (and what you do with it) rather then which of the cameras it is.

And having good footage to begin with

In all the really good stuff I have seen, it`s obvious that the cameraman has an idea of what he wants before he starts the camera rolling and he sets up and shoots are the shots that he thinks he needs.

But your`re right, the skill is also in the editing to create a story that people want to watch through to the end. (And the choice and use of music is more important than most people realise).
