I'm 16 year's old and my climb-speed is 12 with a slope of 10 % and the way is 15 kilometers.

My question louds: is that a good average speed for my age?? I'dont know what the speed is in a junior-course in your country?
It's great that you've been enjoying the Swiss cycling experience.

If you mean that you can sustain 1200 metres vertical per hour for 1 hour 15 minutes then that would be very good, faster than me. I don't think there are any junior racers on this forum, so you might not get an answer as to how this compares to speeds in such races. Your question might get more responses on a cycling-specific forum rather then a Swiss-specific forum.

Re: Cycling in Switzerland

I have a question to other cyclists:
There is a garage just on entering Pully from the west. Some of their customers love to park in the second row, just on the bicycle path. Sometimes it is a tuned piece of junk, or a Ferrari, does not matter.

Is there a procedure one can take a picture of the traffic rule violation and send the picture to the police? I think a series of fines will change the habbits better than a lot of talking.

You can find some die-hard cyclists on here that will meet up for a ride in the wintertime... But for me during the winter the bike usually gets a much-deserved rest and the skis and snowshoes finally get a chance to enjoy the outdoors If you haven't tried cross-country skiing yet, I'd recommend it - It's a great workout, and good cross-training for cycling!

I agree with Hillseeker on this. Winter is mainly for skiing.
However, I can put you in contact with some of those "die-hard cyclists" if you wish (PM me). They go for 2-3 hour rides twice a week after work. Mostly German speaking though.

Re: Cycling in Switzerland

Hi all,

I'm new to Geneva having recently moved from a few years living in Singapore. I'm a regular roadie but cycling in the flatlands of Singapore has me a bit nervous about joining as established fast riding group in Geneva too soon.

I'm looking for advice on joining up with a good leisure but well-paced group to get my legs in mountain shape. I ride mostly on the weekends but hope to ride every weekend so any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,
BigBear

Re: Cycling in Switzerland

I am a casual cyclist (not hard core) and have found the following website to be extremely useful for biking and hiking: http://www.veloland.ch/en/welcome.cfm. You can narrow your search results based on certain areas, print maps and get information on interesting sites to see. It also provides train connection information.

Re: Cycling in Switzerland

I definitely agree about http://map.veloland.ch/

It is an excellent site. we've just done Laufen along the Jura back to Concise and the maps were an excellent source.

My own blog may contain some hints and ideas for potential cyclists in CH. I've been here nearly 7 years now and have finally got back to where I was before I left the Uk in terms of km pedalled. And all in glorious sunshine and scenery!!

Re: Cycling in Switzerland

Hi all,

i want to spend two weeks in Swiss this summer and i want to ride MTB trails.

I found Alpine Bike trail that goes from Scuol for approx 660km. Nice trail. I read information about it and found that it's very famous trail that goes from whole Switzerland, thru Alps - magnificent trail.

I found nice map on map.veloland.ch and when I started analysis I found that approx 70% goes on road (asphalt road as I understand). I found the same in Garmin Topo maps (these roads marked with thin black line). Only small amount of trail goes on hiking trail marked with dashed line.

My questions are:
1. is it true that I will ride mostly on usual road or it's a kind of mistake with thin lines and the trail is fine for MTB?
2. Could you please advice something without hard DH/FR/AM?
