I have seen a bunch of postings about yoga and Pilates in other cities. Can anyone recommend a good place to take Yoga or Pilates classes in Basel?

Unfortunately I can't recommend a place yet, since I'm quite new in Basel. But I've looked around for especially Pilates classes in Basel - it seems like most gyms have them - but as I said I can't say if they are any good.

I've signed up for a class/course (9 times) through the health insurance company (Oekk) I belong to at Malibu fitness with start mid-August. It is a fairly good price without need taking on a 1 year membership somewhere. I can get back with info later in August if it is any good/bad.

On this site http://www.oekk.ch/praeventio you can find pilates & yoga courses (8 -10 classes/course) under Wellness. I think that you don't have to belong to Oekk to sign up (only differnt prices) and the classes are held at regular gyms or studios which are specified at the site as well. So I guess, one can also contact them directly.

When I've looked around on internet I've found these pilates studios (I think they have yoga as well)

I used to go to Fitorama. Staff speaks well english and they have yoga and pilates classes in 3( I think ) levels.

we are offering group mat classes and private trainings in a fully equipped studio ( cadillac, reformer, chair, barrels, magic circles...) in allschwil in basel.

Hi Pilates Fans !

I used to go to the Spirit Studio, in Gundeldingen about a year ago, and I really enjoyed the lessons (used to go at midday). Teachers were very good, although, at the time, the classes did get a little full, but there was always enough space for everyone.


Well equipped, with different sized balls, rolls and hoops, to get those muscles working !

It is very central, beautiful facilities, most of the classes are in english, many styles as Vinyasa Yoga, Jivamukti Yoga, Prenatal Yoga, Gentle Flow Yoga and others. Yoga clothing and accesories. Showers, changing rooms, lounge and boutique.

Yes you are right, I clearly haven't read that section, thanks for the tip. I found this forum in google with the question about yoga classes in Basel and basically wanted to share th B.Yoga opening we are so excited about with all members of the forum because Yoga is an amazing practice for everybody, many expats meet in the class, many expat women meet after prenatal Yoga, so it is something that uplifts the community. Probably you haven't practiced yoga or visited a yoga center. We kindly invite you to come to the opening. Many of my students had a hard time finding a class in english in Basel so that's my intention: communicate more than "advertise".
I am sorry if you find it a "cheek" which I don't know exactly what means in this case, if I would be looking for a yoga class, and i would find this message would be like a sign from the heavens. And thanks very much for leaving it, I anyways will do my best to contribute to the Forum as I myself experience how helpful it is when you live here in Basel.

I'm looking for a pilates class in Basel.

My german ain't great, but I think I'd be OK with a german speaking pilates class if I did a couple of one-to-one lessons first (to learn the swiss german phrases for "now put your left foot behind your right elbow", etc).

There are Pilates classes at Spirit-Studio for Pilates and Yoga. Dornacherstrasse 192- Gundeldinger Feld , Bldg3,(upstairs) Basel.
I have not tried them but they are recommended by the International School of Basel's Extra Curricular Programme for parents.

My missus has been searching for an English yoga class for ages, thanks.
Edit: Are there any plans for evening English speaking classes, a morning session excludes a lot of working English expats
