I hope that the SP initiative will be rejected as it would severely reduce the authority of the Cantons and increase the Federal role.

In regard to the "tax-dumping" Cantons you have to see that those are Cantons which have some nice and attractive areas like the "March" (spoken as m-a-r-k-h) of Canton Schwyz, the areas around its lake in the Canton of Zug and some lake-side areas in the Canton Obwalden, but that large parts of these Cantons are NOT attractive, NOT well connected by public transport, and badly connected by road. The Canton of Zurich, to take the contrary, has heaps of rich residents, who of course DISlike the high taxes, but like to be near airport, restaurants, shopping places, entertainment places. You further on have to see that Zurich in regard to these points is at the far UPPER end in Switzerland, but in comparison to other metropolitan aereas in the world at best is "lower middle ground". And this of course means that many of those "tax-dumpers" are inacceptable.

Re: news article on upcoming vote

The Kantons (or at least some of them) are trying to operate like businesses with market pricing of taxes; I do not see why there is a need for the Government to step in.

Mixing politics & business never works. I think it was Maggie Thatcher who said "you can't beat the market".

My view is to let the Kantons follow whatever direction they feel is appropriate - win or lose - it is their business.

Yes, you "cannot beat the market" but as a "SP-close" lawyer told me you can "tame the market". I agree to both as long as you do not
A) kill the market
B) kill the people
