Geneva police on strike over night duties

There are clean-cut, clearcut strikes and then there are bearded strikes, the kind that the gendarmes, or highway and roads police, have declared in Geneva. They are going to work, but they won’t be handing out fines to drivers, they are not wearing uniforms, nor are they shaving.

Are Night suties the same As business suties, or do they want special suties to match their shoes ?

Re: Geneva police on strike over night suties

I dont agree with this! Police officers in this country are hot! What am i going to look at now when i go to the station??

Cant they keep the uniform at least? The fine thing is a good idea though especially if it applies to parking fines

Or are we talking only about night time?

Day and night time - it might be difficult to identify the officers having chosen not to wear uniforms

Re: Geneva police on strike over night duties

People who work in public services really shouldn't strike, in my opinion.

I was fortunate in never having to confront the problem when I was a member of a union in England (as a teacher, the legal protection is worth paying for), but I would have broken any strike my union might have called, as I believe it is wrong for teachers (or police officers, or nurses, or ambulance drivers) to punish innocent members of the public for the sake of their grievances.

Employees of private businesses are another kettle of fish entirely, of course...

Re: Geneva police on strike over night duties

I'm actually quite enjoying the strike. For once I didn't have the police coming round to my pub because the annoying b*tch of a neighbor complained again about the noise.

It was a lovely night!

Re: Geneva police on strike over night duties

To be strictly accurate the police aren't striking - aka refusing to work. They're continuing to work but flouting the dress and grooming codes.

Not sure what the big deal is. Those of us who work in international companies have been having this problem with our Swiss employees for years.
