| Used properly Powerpoint, or any other visual aid software for that matter, is the most time and cost effective way of presenting data or information to a large group of people. It also helps if the speaker actually knows how to present him/herself and how to engage the audience. I've seen a great set of slides ruined by a poor speaker, and have seen utter tosh made interesting and useful by an engaging an interesting speaker. | |

Firstly, I came into this section hoping to read more about how people actually share news in and about Switzerland. So disappointment aside at the content of some of the threads, I'd have to agree with PaddyG. A Powerpoint (PPT) presentation should NOT be used like an idiot board that the speaker prepares the night before in order to just read from like a script. Thus, it shouldn't be text-heavy. Will end this with a handy tip I found quite useful: follow the 10-20-30 rule in preparing a PPT: It should not (1) be more than 10 slides; (2) be longer than 20 minutes to deliver; and (3) it should not Font size smaller than 30 (i.e. don't cram as much text as you can fit into a slide with font 12!) I'm sure there are circumstances wherein you might not find the 10-20-30 rule applicable, but just give it a try when feasible...it challenges you to present data/info more creatively such as using graphs or frameworks to represent your point, linkages, causal relationships, etc.
