he either turned himself in , or someone dropped a dime and he's back in high security.

I think the article says his mobile phone was tracked to his girlfriend's home and he was arrested. Begs the question though, what was a convicted rapist doing working outside the prison, and why did he have a mobile phone?

Ok, this dude is a rapist...and last Friday was his day out to enjoy..you know a little bit of freedom and all. Sorta of like the recent escaped rapist, only that this guy was allowed to leave unsupervised because the Swiss authorities thought, he's such a great guy with integrity etc. Unfortunately, Mr. rapist decided not to return anymore. (that's all in a nutshell)

However, the article also mentions that in 2009, there was a similar case where a convicted child molester was allowed to leave the premises for a leisurely stroll in town. Unfortunaltely, during his "picnic" time, he decided to rape a 19 year old woman...word of this incident only got out late in 2010.

What is it with these open prisons over here for serious offenders? It is interesting though how the media doesn't report and sensationalise such stories adding to the sense of feeling like we are in 'safe' switzerland

That's what I've been trying to tell people on here. The same goes for violent crimes as well.

Another brilliant criminal mind at work. "Right, I've escaped, I'll run away to them most blatantly obvious place where they'd expect to find me with my cell phone turned on." Clearly a serial rapist with a stack of Mensa magazines piling up on his doormat ...

There was also the case of the killer and rapist a week or two ago who was been taken on a day out in an unlocked van without handcuffs (may infringe his human rights, poor guy) with a female guard, (nothing against females, I am one, but you'd think he would needed a few burly guards to watch him) and managed to escape for a few days. In the end he decided life outside was too hard and handed himself in so he could get back to his nice cosy cell and three meals a day.
