Almost everyone knows about what happening in London and other big cities in UK. My opinion, police in UK don’t do their job properly or someone does not let police to do their job. (Possibly stupid laws in England or stupid Euro-tolerance).

Unbelievable, but police decided to employ rubber bullets after3 days (!) of lootings, burnings and vandalism. Police do nothing to protecttheir citizens. I cannot imagine it happen in USA (for instance). Stupid tanagers are throwing stones to police officers, burning down their cars and police stations and police don’t shot idiots back. What is it? This is not police,this is kindergarten!

Do you think it can happen in Switzerland (especially in the German part)?

I don't think anyone can imagine it happening in their own country until it actually hits.

The "it won't happen here" is probably the naivety that helps it escalate to the levels it has already.

Well "Riots and civil unrest in the United States" is a category on Wikipedia, so you imagination needs to try harder.

I think the UK rioters actually waited until Cameron got lubed up with his factor 30 and stuck his bum on a sun-lounger on his hols before they kicked off...

Yes, indeed they are! It's kinda exciting, isn't it!?!?!? I'm watching it live on the Zuri university webcam even as I type this - buildings are burning, stores being looted the length of Bahnhofstrasse, passersby being shot in the face at close range... It's carnage. Absolute mayhem. Smoke climbing high into the air. Just saw a flight of air force F5s let loose a huge stick of napalms along Limmatquai. Navy is maneuvering at Bürklipatz, clearly getting ready to start a bombardment of the zoo. Expecting the mothership high over the city at any time now...

Actually yes, it hard to believe

I had been living in both countries, in the USA and UK, and I noticed right away that USA police look much more professional than UK police in everything: from colors of their cars and uniform to police behavior. (and UK police oficers are unarmed!!!). In US police even have another glance when they look at you.

The other thing: US police will never let some stupid teenagers to throw stones to their officers, they will fire back, and it is only way how to stop disaster like we have in UK now. This is unbelievable! Teens were uncontrollable for years (it was very noticeable), and now police “gather harvest”.
I still cannot believe it can happen in the German speaking country, like Germany, Switzerland or Austria.

In that case I can't help wondering what the death toll would be if this had happened stateside...

Much more likely to happen in France- where a large North African population has been 'disaffected' for a very long time- and even more so under Sarko's Government. Some Cities in France are ripe for explosion- and the tension with the police is very great.

One of my favourite ever films 'La Haine' a low budget black and white film from about 20 years ago - describes this so well.
