Re: Switzerland loses “safest country” accolade

I wouldn't be surprised if Singapore was considered the safest country...

Maybe if Switzerland started caning people, then it could finally put all of us naughty foreigners in check.

Or it could just tie us up in a room and torture us with yodeling at full-volume. Not sure which is more humane.

CLEARLY, I should have commented on Catholics and the Vatican because that would be different.

Welcome to free speech in Europe.

Re: Switzerland loses “safest country” accolade

Geneva's situation is getting bad, it's becoming normal to read some news about a supermarket or petrol station assaulted in the city. Obviously, the criminals just drive quickly into France.

Wouldn't it be better for Switzerland to quit Schengen so that it would be easier to keep track of those who enter and leave the country by car? I'm not Swiss, yet I think that would be a great idea...

Re: Switzerland loses “safest country” accolade

As I did NOT forge the "old" statistics myself, I assume they WERE forged

For many years, happily into the 90ies, many Cantons sent their drug-addicts to Zurich, and had the Canton (and City) of Zurich to care for their off-spring. Things changed when Zurich police started to systematically re-deport them to their Cantons of origin. Yes, a lot of drug-related crime as a result of this started to hit those "innocent" Cantons. Those "girls" and chaps in charge in those Cantons for years had been happy and busy in criticizing "too lenient" and "too tolerant" Zurich. They in recent years have become a tad more silent which is nice to see.

You have to see that places like Zurich, Geneva and Basel were not more secure than München, Stuttgart, Strassburg or Milano in reality already in the 80ies. In political terms, the SVP in the 80ies and 90ies profited from such "statistics" as the rantings of Ayatollah Blocher about the ignorance of the "Classe Politique" (of which he himself is a leading member ) were honoured by people who saw reality on a daily basis.

I got two posts deleted by the same mod for asking about living in France while my husband works in Zurich, cuz France isn't in Switzerland. Perhaps a bit less joy in the power of the delete button would be nice?

Geneva's situation is getting bad,.........
I've said this before but mrs. G and I live in a tiny village on the outskirts of Geneva and we've had a couple of fairly major incidents involving shall I say people of unknown origin, coming across the border and then running back for the border...

including this incident where I told mrs G "go back to sleep it's only fireworks"
(it wasnt )

http://www.tdg.ch/western-nocturne-bancomat-2010-05-17
Monday shortly after 3 pm, several neighbors, ]awakened by the noise, called police to report that individuals wearing masks were near the bank Raiffeisen Mies.

Very quickly on the spot, the police found themselves in the presence of several masked criminals. These individuals had ripped the ATM using a stolen truck and a steel cable. They tried to flee aboard several vehicles.

I've said this before..but people need to look at the actual statistics to see how bad it really is.

More gangs were targeting Switzerland, he said, in part because of the light penal sentences handed down by Swiss courts – this a result of the “problematic revision” of the law in recent years to address serious overcrowding in Swiss prisons.

It'd be a great idea. Of course it'd only require the burglars to be nice enough and only cross the border through controlled checkpoints and carry appropriate ID.

Preferably the appropriate ID should not state "Occupation - Burglar" & they should avoid carrying bags labelled SWAG.
