The film itself is old news. The new news is that the model in white bikini is Turkish Swiss. Something plain to see. I was surprised that it has taken a week for the follow-up on the story...

I don't understand what the big deal is (aside from the obvious controversy of an anti-immigrant party casting a non blond-haired, blue-eyed person).

I don't see the ad as anti-foreigner, but I do see it as anti-EU, and an attempt to garner women's votes.

Democracy means those who do not approve of the SVP style campaigns have the right to say so and take any peaceful direct action they want to, surely?

You know perfectly why- as you are a very intelligent chap. They would of course love that - and play the victim card so well.
You just said on this very Forum that you find stereotypes unpleasant. And so do I. The SVP/UDC campaigns are all based on such stereotypes and border on inciting ethnic hatred. And I have the right to object strongly, whether you find it tiresome is irrelevant, sorry.

i dont get really involve in politics, but those svp guys have get on the nerves of a lot of people, im finding a lot of their propaganda ripped of and torn appart (no that they dont deserve it)

I posted the link to this advert a couple of weeks ago on the 2011 Swiss Elections thread. I forgot to use some subtle shock therapy inducing words like "racist beach towel lake monster rampant eats babies for breakfast...". Maybe you should write a letter to your favorite cinema chain, then they can file it along with the SBB complaint thread and everyone else publicly displaying, um, public posters, so that the gullible public don't feel influenced to vote for these cannibalistic, flame breathing beasts of hell next month?

I will not vote SVP, nevertheless you've got to have a balance of political parties and choice in a true democracy.

Democracy is a form of government in which all people have an equal say in the decisions that affect their lives. Ideally, this includes equal (and more or less direct) participation in the proposal, development and passage of legislation into law (Wikipedia)

I don't think that's fair - in terms of messaging, the ad is fine, and "clean".

I just find it funny that a party that has had anti-immigration-passport-snatching-benefit-stealing-by-nasty-coloured-foreigners as its major theme(s) should have a non-Caucasian woman who is - clearly IMO - Turkish as part of their ad.

Though the SVP chappie was at pains to point out she was a Swiss citizen, I still find it amusing.

Now whether this was on purpose - to raise the ad's profile - or not is another interesting discussion. I certainly wouldn't put it past them. The SVP have a good marketing machine.

I saw this ad before a movie last week. Most of the audience groaned or otherwise expressed distaste at the end.
