Almost, but not quite. Make that hire by the hour. The influx of prostitutes from the Baltic States working in Switzerland has greatly increased according to a colleague of mine with the ZH police.
but that's a good thing...drives the prices of services down...kind of like Aldi and Lidl and Coop and Migros..

We already have several recently hired where I work.
Honest question: Why do you feel that they have been hired? Because they were so much cheaper or because they couldn't find anyone locally?

Without the lifting of restrictions for EU-8 citizens, personal connections would not have helped them get jobs here.

been to UK more than I care to be. So you attribute the current economic slowdown/crisis to all the Poles that have taken over? It wouldn't be the bank run government? Bad policies? etc?
You seem to have missed my point. You stated that the UK and IE economies had benefitted due to EU immigration, whereas I pointed out that those economies are still in do-do despite the 20% rise in immigration last year.
Unfortunately, due to 15 or so years of Labour mismanagement and more-or-less unrestricted immigration, the indiginous UK workforce has become feckless and benefit-dependant.

Well I agree with a significant % being 'feckless and benefit' dependant- but I believe this trend started much earlier, with the demise of mining, steel, textile, cars, etc, etc. Was it Labour in charge then?

Yes, it was, for much of the time.

Anyway, we're wandering off topic...

If someone(like me) is planning to leave the country but wishes to still work here or wishes to have no problems coming back, I think it would be careless not to get the Swiss pass before leaving as it looks like it will be increasingly hard to immigrate and work here.
Actually, we have several Swiss employees who prefer to live in Italy and commute!

Me, I prefer to walk to work.

Rory has no particular reputation at present
Re: Masseneinwanderung Stoppen

I've seen these signs in Interlaken BE. Asking my Swiss husband he thinks it's for foreigners who come to CH en masse seeking asylum etc. it seems very vague and i feel almost threatened by the posters personally as a foreigner who's been living here since '99.

I get the feeling that some foreigners are more welcome than others. Sure, there's some resentment in rich people pushing up house prices, but as in most places where immigration is an issue, the populists are mostly pandering to the less well off, who face stiffer competition for work.

In case no one read the news recently, as of May 1, 2011, citizens of the so-called "EU-8" countries...Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Slovakia, Estonia, Lithuania, and Latvia, now have full rights to move to Switzerland and look for employment.

That's a combined population of over 73 Million people, many of whom are living in economically depressed countries where unemployment is high, taxes are high, and pay is a small fraction of what can be earned in Switzerland for the same job (and would likely be willing to accept lower pay here just to get in).

This all happened in one fell swoop on May 1st of this year.
you got it wrong there, first they have to find a job and then they will be able to move here...

And still the Swiss employers has to offer salaries according to legislation. If it's possible for Swiss legislation to offer lower salaries to foreigners, than it's Swiss themselves who are to blame...very simple...SELBER SCHULD!!!!!

So it's not foreigners abusing Switzerland, it's Switzerland that "abuses" the foreigners...

No Swiss company is FORCED to accept foreign labour!

Apparently not. At the start of the year the said they were having a think about launching an initiative which would mean naturalised Swiss would lose the Swiss pass if they mess up within a certain amount of time http://www.tagesanzeiger.ch/schweiz/...story/30302904
So people will instead give away their origin citizenship and voila...
The level of retardness of SVP ideas knows no limit...
