Re: Masseneinwanderung Stoppen [initiative to limit immigration]

I understand that the vote isn't accepted very well here. I don't agree with it either but the majority spoke and the minority has to accept it. That's the way it works in this country.
Today there are so many points open and will be answered not before the government brings out the according laws. So there is simply no point in speculating about how it's going to be in three years. And don't forget the next initiative will be coming up soon.
This time our employees, Bundesrat, Nationalrat and Ständerat should listen to their employers, the people, in order to prevent another outcome like this.

They probably do so in Germany but those expressions are not used in Switzerland. But you are excused for not knowing that and other things you are writing about since you don't live here.
I am coming back - to haunt you - in the tunnel.

I am well aware of the etymology of the word Hinterwälder. It's use today is even more appropriate in vast swathes of the Ostschwiiz. :-)

My guess is you're using a dictionary for this.

Whatever, my point is his colleagues were not necessarily Hinterwäldler.
Er, no. My Wortschatz is quite good.

So you live in Germany or Austria near the border and have connections to the German diaspora? Ah well that entitles you of course of knowing everything about Switzerland.

It's Inländer, meaning Swiss and C-permit holders will get preference over B-permit holders and job-seekers abroad
Inländer is by definition a national (einheimischer Staatsangehöriger). But you might check the Civil Code. There's probably also a definition of foreigner (Fremder) to bear in mind.

Anyway the SVP should make cheese — first time I saw the party's logo I thought it was some kind of cheap cheese for tourists

Then I can only suggest you to reword the phrase. Dachschaden goes better in a locution. Also, not all EF members are polyglots, so you might first check their profiles. If you're coming you might learn some other Swiss terms to call people names

You can't reduce this votation to the followers of the SVP. True they brought the matter to the vote but a rather vast amount of members of the SP, Greens, FDP and CVP agreed with them. In Ticino even the cantonal party of the Greens gave out the "yes" parole.
But I think the "problem" with foreigners is only the tip of the iceberg. More and more people don't agree the path this country is following. There is a deep unease about the impacts of the globalization and its high time that our government take note of this.
Judging on the comments in the German, Austrian, French and British press Swiss are not the only ones feeling like this they are just the only ones who can express this sorrow.

You got this right

Although I get some points of SVP, the means to achieve their goals and how they argue, oh, it's just too primitive. Even 1:4 of Stimmvolk is disappointing for me.

It might still be a generation problem — all over Europe

I think it's a matter of time until the workforce becames as faceless as the capital. Eurasia a là 1984 is not that distopian, politically at least.

I have no connections to any diaspora.

I didn't vote, I've done and said enough about racism in Switzerland. This is what Swiss people want, so I though just give them enough rope..... Switzerland is about to lose its legal yet cheap immigrant workforce is that a bad thing?

How is voting to implement tighter controls on immigration from Europe a racist thing?

Proof that German Swiss are not anal-retentive.

Is this a reciprocal agreement- should all countries have a quota for the number of Swiss they allow in? San Francisco seems ty have quite a few.

My mistake-I thought the vote was aimed at non- Swiss, Like all the Germans nurses and doctors who take the medical jobs. Germans and Swiss are the same race?

You are counting? So very Swiss, so very very Swiss! How does the number of views correlate with the Masseeinwanderung Quota?

Does the rest of the world really care if Switzerland imposes a quota on itself?

The vote was aimed at stopping the uncontrolled immigration of people from the EU. Immigration from non-EU countries is already controlled.

I can't be bothered getting into some pointless discussion of the definition of "racism", but I'd like some explanation into how controlling immigration can be defined as 'racism' or 'xenophobia' or any other kneejerk term you might like to throw at us from over the other side of the Atlantic.

There are many reasons to dislike the outcome of this vote. Claiming that the voters were motivated by racism is not one of them.

EDIT: and yes, if you're referring to the German-speaking Swiss, then they are the same race. History books are your friends.
