PS: I have never met anyone working as a professional whose salary is not at least double than you mentioned.
Hello? I work as a "professional" and I don't earn close to double that. You have a bizarre grasp of reality.

So why so little interest for the Swiss in this vote?
Actually, it was the highest turn-out for a referendum in recent years. Most barely scratch 50%.

Professional is quite a loose word which can be even attributed to pole dancers.

Having such a direct influence on the politic of the country, I would think people would use this privilege with a much higher participation regarding things that important for the future of a country.

How many people in how many countries wish to have such a democratic voice.

So the vote participation was 56% of the population.

The results on this was 50.3 for the yes...

Hardly represent what each and every Swiss think of the situation...

I think I'll wait before to stress out about this whole thing.
I would like to see a vote breakdown by age, and also know more about these people who didn't vote at all

... can you however understand the frustration of the Romands- who voted democratically against- but see their vote lost to 'democracy' (and yes- I know, this is how democracy works... but it is hugely frustrating and painful)
Do you think it feels better to be on the winning side in Zürich or the losing side in Ticino? I think belonging to 39.1% cantonal minority in Genève feels much better than belonging to the 36.9% cantonal minority in Schwyz.

Its not just the SVP signs...

The local COOP and Migros have removed barbecue sauce and British products from the shelves in the past two weeks, I know it is a detail, but the writing is on the wall.... they no longer want us to be comfortable here. Those with the means will take the hint, giving them less to sort out in 3 years.
Ding, ding, ding! Thread is over, we have a winner! I will now stock up on HP and ammo and hide in the fall out shelter with my aluminium hat. Good luck to all of you!

How EU feels about it from RT prospective?

Eurocrat fury as Swiss 're-build walls' against EU

"Many people feel this is challenging their identity, even if there isn't any concrete economic impact on a personal level,” Georg Lutz, professor of political science at the University of Lausanne Georg, told Reuters.

"I don't want to live like a sardine in a tin can," independent politician Thomas Minder, who supports the initiative, told tabloid newspaper Blick.

I looked for root beer in the beer section of COOP and couldn't find it. I then looked in the soda pop section as well but there was no root beer to be found. What does this mean???

And, dang it, where are the maple bars? Why are the supermarkets refusing to sell them? I feel discriminated.

And then there's the brown sugar.......

Again - Swiss students are treated as "EU" by the Universities in Europe because bilateral agreement between Switzerland and EU. The agreement was negotiated as a "package" that included the the freedom of movement deal as well... in other words if Switzerland introduces quota without agreeing with the EU, the agreement will be broken, i.e. students from Switzerland will loose their "EU" privileges at the European universities (reduced tuition if any, no visa requirements).
Indeed, and also it's not your nationality that determines tuition fees it's your country of residence. So UK expats here hoping to send their kids to a UK university might be in for a surprise.

because overpopulation it has absolutely nothing to do with nationality, race or origin. I would glady replace 100'000 swiss with 50'000 foreigners.

I don't understand your point. At all. It seems that people with more experience of foreigners are more accepting of foreigners. And while I understand principles of democracy, it's unfortunate the decision is carried by those with less information and understanding. But that's voting.

oh WOW! Now this definitely hurts!
5800 is quite a nice salary, also for professionals!

Double than that? WOW!

I think I begin to understand why you guys don't have an understanding for Swiss people being afraid of the exploding rental prices.
Is it really helpful and necessary to heckle the non Swiss people on the forum? It is clear that in every economy, professional work has a range of pay from lowest to highest based on skill, years of experience, and market demand vs. availability for specific or integrated expertise set. Do you need to blame people who were invited to work in Switzerland for the challenges you may face paying your rent?

Most professionals working in my area were invited to come here to work, some uprooting their families to relocate. My job went unfilled, although paying a fair amount above the 5800 you talk about, and was publicly posted and recruited for in Switzerland for 14 months before I was offered the job. No qualified Swiss takers. How does this make it the fault of people like me that you are having trouble with rising housing costs?
