This has been debated many, many times: withdrawing the guns is not the answer, the police should be locking up the criminals.
Yes it is nice to see crimes actually reported soon after the event, and not a week later.

To be fair, the middle one happened in 2009.
These two incidents today don't really change the fact that Switzerland is a very safe country.
Bad things happen every where. Fewer bad things happen in Switzerland than a whole long list of other places.
But keep spinnin' it. | | The following 10 users would like to thank miniMia for this useful post: | |

| | | Re: For the ones, who think it is nice and cosy here... | Quote: | | | | | | | | | | Did you read the really interesting things ? Media people went to the scene to get news directly. No longer simply waiting for press-releases of the police-force. The point is NOT that they suddenly want to report about crimes swiftly, the point is that they, fighting against competition from otherwise boring local-radio-stations and against looming bankruptcy of their paper(s) have to become a bit more active
Interesting also is that TWO of the crimes of recent days happened NOT in Geneva or Basel or Zürich but in that peaceful Cantons of Bern and Solothurn. And one of the two even in romantic and sleepy and beautiful Solothurn-City
The really positive thing is that increased pressure from the side of the media may pressure some police-forces to release news more swiftly than in the past

Reports this morning of a Serb headed into court for his part in the attempted armed robbery of an Ikea cash transporter back in Liestal, BL back in February 2010. The truck driver managed to shoot one of the two attackers who was subsequently arrested in hospital. The state prosecutor is asking for a three and a half year sentence, the defense is requesting a two year stretch.
Doesn't strike me as being a very long sentence for a pre-meditated armed robbery, especially as the guy who was caught has remained silent about the identity of the second perpetrator.
Swiss justice is a mystery sometimes.

THEN you'll feel warm. |

However, if they were looking for some suspects who were of a specific race, or spoke with specific accents, that would be a different matter to help in identifying or excluding certain individuals.
