| | | USA threatens Switzerland: give us your criminal records, or no more visa-waiver http://www.20min.ch/news/schweiz/story/28100376
My personal opinion: let them kick us out of the visa-waiver program. This is really going to far.
It's just a pity that due to the Schengen-accords, we won't be able to make US citizens get visa as well.

- Biometric passport
- ESTA Tourist authorization
- Fingerprints
- Eye prints
I'd rather go through a full body scan than get a tourist visa.

But you need 3 of the above anyway, with or without Visa, no?

If they follow up on their threats that would be oil in the fire for the SVP and we might see a fresh anti-Schengen campaign.

I'd rather go through a full body scan than get a tourist visa. | | | | | except for the eye prints, you have to get everything already now. Oh, and you forgot the 20$ entry fee to the zoo.

The US has so many issues to solve internally - I don't quite understand the need to bully other countries at this time. And it seems like bullying (I say as US citizen).

I'd rather go through a full body scan than get a tourist visa. | | | | | My wife tried to get a U.S. tourist visa once and they said it would take a few months as she had a new, but the wrong sort of Swiss passport.
I guess they don't want tourists, much.

anyway, I don't see why the US is so concerned with dangerous Swiss visitors. Pity that this kind of stuff blows back on us US-expats living and working here

Let's not forget that they bully their own citizens (I am one), with the taxation without representation thing... many of us no longer have US addresses, so there are no Congressional reps that give a hoot about our issues.
The politicians think that we must ALL be rich and squirreling away tax free assets. I REALLY cannot stand the tax policies for Americans living abroad, but there is no way that the laws will be changed because why would anyone in a position to make a change do anything when it does not benefit them... | Quote: | | | | | The US has so many issues to solve internally - I don't quite understand the need to bully other countries at this time. Ha, this coming from a country with a significant drug and crime problem itself. Quite frankly it beggars belief.
I know quite a number of expat USA citizens and they're good people, very good people. I'm truly sorry their country is becoming an embarrasment for them.

Impressive is the number of reactions & comments on the 20minuten article (more than 500 at 8.15pm). I think also it's time about giving the signal that enough is enough. If Switzerland imposes visa on US citizen it will mean no access anymore to Schengen space anymore.

i saw this and was, again, as has happened so many times since the bush administration and appears now to be carried on by obama who has other priorities, SO PROUD TO BE AMERICAN.
U!S!A! U!S!A! U!S!A!
nothing promotes our standing in the eyes of the world like punitive measures against the one country in europe which still seems to like us.

I'm over here working on rotation at the minute - harassed going through immigration as I'm working for a European company in the place
- no option to escape or reclaim paying US sales taxes as per the rest of the world
- ridiculously one sided regulation of US listed companies
USed to be a great place , now gone to the dogs... can't wait to get home.
