About "As I understand it from the Schweitzerzeit the information passed on by Blocker was to the Swiss President herself, who was also head of the "election authority for the president of the National Bank". Ulrich Schlüer, chief editor of that paper also claims that the issue "stood under strict confidentiality" at the time"

So your post confirms this stolen bank information was passed onto another person by Blocher. So far as I understand this action is a criminal offense in Switzerland?
I do not believe the law makes exceptions with names of influential people that are allowed to do this or receive this information?

I assume the Swiss President is immune from prosecution whereas Blocher is not?

If it is decided that Blocher's activities did not constitute a crime for those reasons then I foresee the Swiss President getting a flood of information from unhappy bank employees. Bank secrecy will be down the toilet.

The problem for Mr Blocher is how he got the stuff. He got it from a thief. While Mrs Calmy Rey got the stuff from a member of parliament.

In addition to this, it looks as if those chaps of the prosecution believe that Mr Blocher only handed over to Mrs Calmy-Rey the harmless part and kept the really interesting stuff back.

We will see the results

Criminal to some extent was that Mr Blocher took the stuff over, but his handing the stuff forward was not criminal at all

And whatever, the Federal President now is Ueli Maurer, the Defence Minister. Any bank-employee with a grudge will send his material to Mrs Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf, the fairly powerful Finance Minister.

Let's add that the title of this thread has to be changed as the last SNB chief resigned last year and the new SNB chief, Mr Jordan is not to resign right now

Re: SNB chief resigns...

Interesting twist, according to Tagesanzeiger & Blick Mr Hildebrand has got himself a new girlfriend; the multi billionairess Margarita Louis-Dreyfus.
Sorry can't add links today, maybe something to do with Windows 8.1?

I suppose in the circumstances it is not surprising if he is really not keeping his wife.

Re: SNB chief resigns...

Interesting article today about the status of the two cases with SVP involvement; this one and the Mörgeli affair - here. (in German language)

Quick summary; it is estimated that legal fees run into millions; mostly paid by the tax payers.
So far if I translated correctly Mörgeli has won one small case around Amt secrecy and was awarded around 10K CHF, Kathy Riklin won one case around Amt secrecy and was awarded a bit more.
According to the article there are probably more cases to be decided if they ever actually get to court that might involve Christoph Blocher, Hermann Lei, Claudio Schmid and the suspected data thief Reto T also possibly Regine Aeppli, Flurin Condrau, Iris Ritzmann, Martin Bürgisser and maybe others.

What an amazing escalation!

Re: SNB chief resigns...

The criminal investigation against former President of the Swiss National Bank Philipp Hildebrand has been cancelled according to today's papers.

Blocher had claimed that Hildebrand had informed newspapers about Blocher's role. The Attorney General could not find out who had provided the media with information about Blocher's role.

Re: SNB chief resigns...

The criminal investigation against Zürcher SVP-Kantonsrat Claudio Schmid has been cancelled according to today's papers due to insufficient evidence.

Investigation of Thurgauer SVP-Kantonsrat Hermann Lei and Alt-Bundesrat Christoph Blocher continues but based on the lack of prosecution success of various players so far I personally doubt we will see any prosecutions
