Absinthe and bad publicity on TV.

The natives from the Val-de-Travers, where absinthe was first made, are not happy at all about the bad publicity made via a recent episode of CSI Manhattan. The story is of a guy who murders due to the influence of absinthe, not drunk neat with a bit of sugar as Van Gogh and others did in the past, but in the traditional way, 1 to 5 proportion 'troublée' with a traditional absinthe fountain. Shame they didn't check their facts first.

I'm surprised it would lead to murder.

Usually it would make the heart grow fonder.

Someone had to say it.

Re: Absinthe and bad publicity on TV.

I used to live just next to Val de Travers, landlord had the 'hookup' for proper bootleg stuff. Hurt my liver numerous times on the stuff, can't remember anything bad ever happening. Come to think of it, can't remember much of anything after the 5th or 6th Nutella glass of the stuff . (in Ste-Croix the proper Absinthe glass is always a Nutella glass )

The only bad thing about Absinthe is the hangover. Worse than a Pastis hangover, worse than a Gentiane hangover. But worth it!

Now that was a good one I hate Pastis and I hate Absinthe - tried it once for all the legends that go with it - no, not for me.

Right Odile, 'cos the CSI franchise is all about making "reality" crime dramas, heh? Some of the computers they have wouldn't go amiss on the Enterprise and it's odd, how they always manage to get the right clue...

What is this about a right and a wrong way?

Almost every place that served it to me had a slightly different method. With and without sugar, with and without flames on top. Different types of glasses. And of course everybody swears theirs is the right way.

Could you give a quick explanation?

OURS is the right way because we invented the stuff lol (I was born and bred in ye olde days of illegal absinthe in Val-de-Travers- yeah I know, explains a lot).

All the more Absinthe for the rest of us

Btw, just to be clear you also need sugar when you use the traditional absinthe fountain; I wanted to buy one but "absurd Swiss prices"
