given that the typical Marine is definitely American but probably did not do his or her doctoral thesis on the Symbols of Nazi Germany, it is far more likely that the sniper unit in your picture are fans of glam metal from the 1970's than Nazi units from the 1940's.

1. It is an SS rune, end of story. Even the military admits it...

The average soldier is younger than me and Kiss was not cool since the 80s. You will not find glam metal fans younger than 40. No marines ever claimed to have copied kiss - that would be more embarrasing than the SS... and the marine corps has by now openly admitted that it is indeed the SS symbol the soldiers borrowed. Official argument is at the moment that the soldiers had "no malicious intent" doing so.

2. The SS was not some hardly known organisation only historians remember. Even if you grow up watching nothing but hollywood movies as education do you know that they are the bad guys. Which is probably the point: the scout snipers want to look bad ass.

What the Air Force finally "found out" and what Ueli Maurer had no knowledge of was well known months ago. The reason to support the Gripen was that the Swedes promised to include CH-union owned RUAG Aerospace AG into the work on these fighters.

What do the Swedes have to do with Swiss Air Space? I'm confused. Maybe I'm having an unintelligent right wing senior moment.

The fighter jet JAS 39 "Gripen" is made by (swedish) Saab AB.
