It's not really clear, but it says at the end:

Quote:
"According to the migration office’s latest “Immigration Monitor”, 1,772,279 foreigners live in Switzerland, three per cent more than in 2010. The total Swiss population is 7.8 million."
So I'm guessing that would be net +3%...

Sort of doesn't make sense to me.

15% more moving in, but a bunch moved out, so only 3% total increase.

Nearly 1 in 4 of the Swiss population is a furrner. And still not all Swiss speak English. Harrumph.

Oh, I forgot, the English aren't furrners. Anywhere.

There were too many numbers in that article.... :P I read it three times and something just wasn't clicking.

Anyway, it doesn't actually say that 3% is the net migration rate becuase it doesn't mention how many Swiss left. So net could be less than 3%.

Seems I still need to use the "state-the-bleedin'-obvious-sarcastic" emoticon. I had hoped that wouldn't be necessary any more, what with the recent changes to the forum membership and all.

If Google is translating "Hauptsprache" correctly, the chart you link to only shows the MAIN language that people living in Switzerland speak. Just as a good chunk of the 73,400 English speakers ALSO speak German, French, or Italian, it's possible that some of the other people in that chart ALSO speak English aside from their main language.

Sorry, perhaps I should have used the sarcastic emoticon too. Never to late

For sure, there needs to be more countries like Sweden.

Like the city Malmö "featured" in the movie above. Its the size of Geneva, and it's now over 50% immigrants. Great!
Well when you think about it we are all immigrants - we all came out of Africa some 100,000 years ago.
Funny that we are not more welcoming to the current African generation

Funny that we probably killed all colonies that "we" invaded in between (such as the indians in North america).

So history is not a straight line: Africa -> europe.

Funny also that many Africans are not that welcoming as you are saying.
You know, white don't have the monopoly of racism...do you?

So such statement is quite silly after all.
"Welcoming" has nothing to do with something which happened 100 000years ago....

Or maybe it's because we still have a grudge from 100 000years ago when Gruff the caveman was upset because gruff2 the other caveman stole his mammouth?

We need to broaden the outlook of the local people.
What a good way to "teach" the ignorant locals:
Forcing them to have more people, not even caring if they want or not.

After all it's written in stone, they are ignorant, "we" are the good teachers, superiors, who will "educate them" to welcome "foreigners"...

Don't know- looks like trying to insert a foreign object into my body, which is very unwelcome...and which will definitely create a very aggressive reaction from me.... which I guess is a good metaphore for that situation with the "locals" Swiss people.

Reminds me how the "good" were spreading their superiority, wiping out civilizations in the process...

Not that it's ain't happened in the past, but that's different, isn't?

Seems the number of people wanting to become Swiss in 2011 is the lowest for 6 years according to the Bunsamt Migration.

So this major foreign invasion is just a figment of some journalists pen. Real figure is probably under 3%; not 15%.

Excuse me but who is "Forcing them ("the ignorant locals" as you wrote) to have more people".
These foreign people come here to work - and who is giving these people jobs? The very same ignorant locals that you mention.
