Got to love his attitude & definitely not the norm here! http://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/swiss_ne...l?cid=32576118 | Quote: | | | | Of the hundreds of climbers preparing to tackle Mount Everest this spring, all eyes are on “Swiss Machine” Ueli Steck and the route and style he chooses.

He truly is an amazing guy, not only in mountaineering, but also as a climber. Doing free solo 8c... although he stopped doing that, realizing he would die one day because of it.
Anyway, I wonder why he is not doing more videos (with stuff like GoPro), that is how most people outside mountaineering/climbing actually know him. It doesn't have to be an epic stuff like Eiger north face, but still...

Steck is a true professional and his preparation is as meticulous as it can be. His multivision presentations for sure the best ones I've ever seen.

Where is it the norm? Just for the sake of clarification.

In order to climb this way succesfuly this guy must have trained with an extraordinary level of focus. His technique, developed over many years must be deeply ingrained in his mind. One misstake is the last misstake. He must also be very honest with himself and to have such an attitude is truly awe inspiring. It's not easy to be honest with ourselves, is it? Like most very successful people he probably has a very stable private life or at least one that does not interfere with his climbing.
I admire these types. And I hope that he stayes honest with himself and quits the dangerous climbs before he becomes too old.
Impressive man. Honesty is a good thing, but it is not profitable to its possessor unless it is kept under control.Don Marquis (1878 - 1937) If you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything.Mark Twain (1835 - 1910) Our lives improve only when we take chances - and the first and most difficult risk we can take is to be honest with ourselves.Walter Anderson |

Maybe I have misunderstood - are you saying that 'here' attitudes are lazy and lethargic, etc,.

He probably needs to work really hard at getting a high media profile so his sponsors feel they are getting their money worth. They pay him so he can do the things he loves to do.

( I guess it would have been year 2000-2001? ) and he practically had to prostitute himself to sponsors to, as Tom rightly points out, get to do what he loves.
I don't know if he ever made it to Kathmandu, or the mountain. | | This user would like to thank grynch for this useful post:
