Re: Michele Bachmann now wants to withdraw her Swiss citizenship

While I despise the woman's politics, I wish she had not withdrawn her request for Swiss citizenship.

One of America's most prominent xenophobes a dual citizen... this could have been a chance for the Tea Party crowd to learn a little about the world beyond US borders.

Missed opportunity.

Instead, pandering to the uninformed remains the order of the day.

Schade.

Too bad she felt she couldn't be a proud American citizen and exercise her perfectly legal right to hold dual citizenship.

Re: Michele Bachmann now wants to withdraw her Swiss citizenship

Nobody ever doubted that she was an American, so her excuse doesn't hold any water.

I'd still like to know how she got facilitated naturalization so fast. Or I'd like her process to be a little more transparent so we can se she was treated like every other person.

What's funny to me though is that I've read comments in the US that she "won't be getting her free health care now". She really missed an opportunity to explore how Switzerland does things and to enlighten Americans that not all of Europe is Socialist.

Re: Michele Bachmann now wants to withdraw her Swiss citizenship

As I understand it she was able to acquire her Swiss citizenship simply because she married a Swiss citizen. That was the only requirement she needed to meet to apply for Swiss citizenship. I bet she isn't too worried about the state of her personal health insurance; I'd have thought that she took the citizenship because she could, along with her kids. I wouldn't be surprised if her kids took it so that they could come to university here.

But it still says something if the children of a high profile politician want out of america and see greener pastures elsewhere for work or study or whatever; especially as Bachmann's statement says "I am proud of my allegiance to the greatest nation the world has ever known"

Perhaps change to "had ever known", and you can see that by the actions of her and her husband, they know the direction america is going, and hedging the brighter future for their children elsewhere, patriotic bla bla bla aside. Seems they did not do it so their kids could go visit great aunt frau bachmann in Thrugau or the like, that is for sure.

Re: Michele Bachmann now wants to withdraw her Swiss citizenship

Being a Swiss citizen would hurt her chances on becoming US President in the future. Not only is she a great politician and a natural MILF, she also puts her patriotic values before her family values.

She was married in '68, back when that was all that was needed to gain the passport.

For my understanding, she really didn't get any special treatment, anyone that was married to a Swiss national (and still is) prior to the change in naturalization process, is entitled to those same regulations.

lol, natural milf? does this mean she was born a milf? lol

Did she not say contraception gives you aids or something?

I'm not saying I wouldn't have un-relenting vigorous intercourse with her, that probably would be the fun part, it's the bit afterwards while I smoke a cigarette and she explains to me her deep rooted hatred of all other ethnic groups, religions, and the left wing, that would be the awkward part...

Then I'd begin to regret the threesome with Palin, Bachmann, and Ann Coulter.

It’s the half demented look in their eyes that does it for me..

Re: Michele Bachmann now wants to withdraw her Swiss citizenship

As a registered Democrat, this comment from her Democratic opponent really disturbs me

"The campaign of her Democratic opponent for re-election, businessman Jim Graves, insinuated she might have divided loyalties.
"Earlier this year, Rep. Michele Bachmann was Iowan, earlier this week she was Swiss and today she's an American," Graves campaign spokesman Donald McFarland said in a statement Thursday. "Jim Graves has always known where he's from, where he raised his family and where he built his businesses — St. Cloud Minnesota."

http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2012...&smid=tw-share

Pandering to the uninformed, indeed...(on both sides)
There is absolutely nothing wrong, illegal or disloyal about being a dual citizen, and such comments are offensive to millions of dual citizens, both abroad, and within the US. Frankly, everything about US politics lately disgusts me.

sorry...Rant over...

Actually, she is way more articulate than Sarah Palin. She can make incredibly stupid, narrow minded (insert prefix here)-phobic comments, while *sounding* coherent and semi-smart. This makes her far more dangerous than Sarah Palin, and less likely to be dismissed as a joke.

Thank you, Zuridri. I agree with you.

I think it is gross to refer to Michele Bachmann as a "milf" and to call her husband gay. I don't agree with her politics, but I can still respect her as a person.

She wears way too much makeup imo.

But yay for Switzerland for dodging that bullet. I do agree though that it sends the impression that one can't be patriotic if they're a dual citizen. Oh well.
