| | | the overvalued CHF kills jobs
Just saw the following report
---------------------------------------------
Lufthansa Technik Switzerland (LTSW) restructures its activities in Basel, and will limit its activities on Line Base Maintenance and Light Base Maintenance plus logistical services for its airline customers. After the implementation of these changes, only 82 of the now 304 employees will still be employed. Two reasons were given: low demand and the overvalued Swiss Franc
--------------------------
The 1€-1.20CHF-peg is not yet sufficient for Lufthansa. They possibly might accept a 1€-1.30-peg. The economy, in reaction to the markets, will increase its pressures upon the Federal authorities in this regard.
As in the days of Fritz Leutwyler in the SNB, there may even be again negative interest rates on foreign bank-deposits

I work in an International School and we have seen a drop in enrollment because foreign companies and embassies are cutting back on jobs because the CHF is so high. Especially US based firms, where the Franc is worth about 10% more than the dollar.

Wait until the Euro collapses and the flight to the Franc really starts.
The SNB will no longer be able to enforce the €1.20 floor - or anything vaguely near it...

If it does, it will lead to a collapse of the CHF. Switzerland may be forced to give up its own currency and to adopt another currency, either the US Dollar or the Japanese Yen or the Saudi Riyal. And if the SNB becomes unable to fulfil its duty, it will be dissolved accordingly

So the dodgy tax deals multinational companies get are slowly being outweighed by the strong currency they in part helped to create.
In a Peter Griffin voice ... Criss Cross!

Or is it just conjecture and soundbites?

Or is it just conjecture and soundbites? | | | | | standard internet argument. X cannot happen because if X happens, then Y will happen (probably doesn't logically follow) and if Y happens, then Z will happen (again, statement is likely not true) and Z is very very bad and nobody wants this to happen, therefore it can't happen, so Y can't happen and therefore X can't happen.

Or is it just conjecture and soundbites? | | | | | You'll have to remember that Mr. Wolli is the only person capable to say with a straight face that when two out of the few hundred Swissair pilots convert to ship-captains it's sufficient proof to prove the existence of professional mobility.
Or to assure you that NOWADAYS Geneva restaurants are MUCH better - although he last tried them in person in 1974.

The SNB will no longer be able to enforce the €1.20 floor - or anything vaguely near it... | | | | | For those of us on UK pensions, this is a bit (much) worrying. But we will cope. Open a B&B with customised tours, re-open a private language school for intensive weeks + guiding - and get some sheep and chickens + more fruit and veg. Ah well - we will cope - c'est la vie
Already lost about 50% of income since we arrived (£ was at 2.50).

I mean adopt Saudi riyal..... | | | | | Have you ever travelled from Cairo to Khartoum ? You have to change your Egyptian Pounds into Saudi Riyal and in Khartoum to use them to purchause Sudan Pounds
And you may be aware of the CHF being in an alliance with the Saudi Riyal to cover up the currencies of the former five USSR Asian republics. Bundesrat Stich on a visit to Riyadh arranged this interesting alliance ! Since then, cargo airplanes with loads of gold regularilly arrive in Zurich in order to have the reserves safely deposited
