Re: Serious allegations against Professor Christoph Mörgeli

So far as I understood the article Mörgeli came out a little ahead.
It is a long article but briefly the university did not follow the correct dismissal procedure so must pay Mörgeli an additional 3 months salary - I guess this will not cover the legal bills which are rumoured to be in 7 figures.
They also concluded that the dismissal was OK on the grounds of "lack of loyalty" related to comments about university members.
Nothing was reported about Mörgeli's request to be reinstated.
Getting paid 3 months salary means he came out clearly ahead. To my understanding it means the "fristlos" (effective immediately) termination was unlawful, and is corrected by the 3-month salary assignment. But it's not a full-blown victory as he still has to pay his lawyer himself, and also gets severely criticized. And as usual (always?) the termination itself is upheld.

Re: Serious allegations against Professor Christoph Mörgeli

According to todays newspapers the case against Sebastian Brändli, the head of Zurich University Office has been dropped due to lack of evidence.
Mörgeli had claimed he broke the secrecy rules of his job and informed people about Mörgeli's dismissal.

The newspapers also claim that Regine Aeppli engaged Lorenz Erni, a lawyer, whose fees are claimed to be "in the higher 3 figure numbers per hour". Now we, the taxpayers, will have to pay these fees.
Would be interesting/depressing to know how many millions this Mörgeli business has cost us in total?

Re: Serious allegations against Professor Christoph Mörgeli

According to Tagesanzeiger today Professor Mörgeli's Facebook account has been closed for "inappropriate content".

In the same edition they wrote Professor Mörgeli "Verletzt worden sei auch die Europäische Menschenrechtskonvention (EMRK)." which means his Human Rights according to the European convention were not respected in the Aeppeli affair.
Always thought the SVP wanted Switzerland to withdraw from the European Human Rights convention

Of course they do. Unless they gain from them, that is. I thought you'd be aware of their double standards by now.

Claims in Tagesanzeiger today that Professor Mörgeli is somehow involved in the downfall of Daniel Senn who was a senior auditor in KPMG.

Re: Serious allegations against Professor Christoph Mörgeli

How can Mörgeli claim to have knowledge about accounts at Sarasin?

I find it quite interesting that ex-SNB president Hildebrand also had an account at Sarasin.

Votes counted in 29 Zürich Gemeindes and the Professor is showing at place number 29 although he was number 2 on the SVP list. It could even turn out that he fails to get into the Nationalrat.

Mörgeli and Fehr will most certainly not be in the next NR. Looks like some other former ZH SPV NR will not be in the new NR as well. The SVP list looks like it came through an hurricane. Köppel (Chief Editor Weltwoche) has a top result.

The elections seem bleak, mostly SVP dominating the propaganda scene without any real content (as usual), fortunately it doesn't matter since the market will continue to dominate and set the agenda in Switzerland, so much for the greatest democracy :-)

Re: Serious allegations against Professor Christoph Mörgeli

Morgeli appealed to the national court (Bundesgericht) about Regine Aeppli (Former Director of Education) retaining her immunity and so avoiding any possibility of a criminal investigation into her activities related to Mörgeli's dismissal from the University.
The court has rejected his appeal on the grounds that the process around Aeppli retaining her immunity was correctly followed.

Re: Serious allegations against Professor Christoph Mörgeli

About a year ago the Zürich district court decided the evidence in the affair Mörgeli against the accused Associate Professor Iris Ritzmann was not useable?

Mörgeli and the prosecutors appealed and now the Zurich Supreme Court has handed down a new judgment that the evidence is not useable.

It is not known if there is a further appeal planned to a higher court?
This whole business is costing millions for nothing!!

Re: Serious allegations against Professor Christoph Mörgeli

According the tagesanzeiger.ch (german article) the court on the administration in Zürich has decided that Mörgeli's termination happened in an unlawful manner. The university has been sentenced to pay him 5 monthly salaries in damages and 12 monthly salaries as compensation.

So at least some costs he causes the public are justified.

still, there is quite a lot of ugly mudslinging on facebook and I've never seen anybody being banned or any threads shut down. So he must have said something pretty nasty to merit that.

Either that, or this is not the whole story.

Maybe he deleted his own profile to eb able to claim he was banned?

At last he won one!

Will the University appeal or let it lie?

You would imagine the super high qualified and intelligent (very well paid) university leaders would understand how to run a dismissal process correctly??

Edit; One could imagine the result of the last Nationalrat election describes the overall success of winning over the public perception of this affair due to the Mörgeli's multiple court actions.

Is there a court above the Verwaltungsgericht? The University is a kantonal matter, the Bundesverwaltungsgericht judges on issues concerning the federal administration.

Qualified in what field, certainly not HR? Besides, even very intelligent people are well capable of acting very stupidly.

I'm quite positive the neverending legal story had a negative impact on his results. Not least because it made everybody aware of what he is: member of one of the groups the SVP keeps bashing, in this case the employees of the Kantons and Bund of which supposedly at least 10% are slack.
