| | | Missing woman and infant
35 year old Silvia Styger and her few weeks old infant have been missing in Schwyz since Wednesday morning.
Also missing is her car, a KIA Picanto license plate number SZ 72'697.

The police stopped every car on the way to the highway in Brunnen on Thursday afternoon and looked in, including mine. I was wondering what/who they were looking for. They didn't say anything.
I hope they will find her and the little one soon. Let's pray she didn't commit suicide or anything like that.
Edit: I meant to say Wednesday afternoon.

Well, that's nice to know that they're making such an effort to find them!
But yeah, I thought the same thing... worrying about suicide. Her baby is still a newborn and I'm worried that maybe she was suffering the "baby blues" or postpartum depression.
Can only hope for the best at this point, though...

They found her. Terrible tragedy. news in German
I am thinking about her family. What a terrible thing to happen. It was as we already suspected.

My German is not good enough to read the entire article, but I think it says that she did indeed commit suicide (and took her baby along with her)...?
So incredibly sad...
I assume it's probably due to extreme postpartum depression.
Honestly, I think that hospitals should give women a 24-hour phone number to call for emergency psychological services after they give birth. Between the lack of sleep, the stress of having to take care of the baby and the crazy drop in hormones, which all lead to depression, I just think that it might help a lot of women.

The poor woman obviously didn't have anyone she could turn to or would understand. I went through this and I know how hard it is, you are too ashamed to admit that you are not all happy and if you do, people will tell you not to kick such fuss over nothing.

Thankfully, the worst of it only lasted a few days, but WOW. Some pretty crazy thoughts went through my head (though nothing that verged on harming my baby). But you're right -- it's so difficult because everyone seems to expect us to be so happy and elated because of the birth, but inside, we're often screaming for help. | | The following 8 users would like to thank Carrie F for this useful post: | |

We are frequently conditioned to think we are supposed to cope with the hormonal changes, the utter tiredness, the isolation, the anxiety of caring for a new little person....
I am inclined to think that more face to face support is what is needed, especially for the mother of a newborn, but actually for the partner as well. Too often new mothers are living in daily isolation from the support of extended familiy or a caring local community. Fathers too, can feel helpless and hopeless at this time.

That's true. Face-to-face support would make much more sense. Sadly, though, it's so difficult for many new mothers to leave the house (without their baby) to make such an appointment. So perhaps it would be nice if they could have someone come to the mother's home...
I remember when my baby was first born, there was a really nice Hebamme that would come here every few days, for the first few weeks. I remember feeling so comforted having her here, but I never really felt that she was here to provide emotional support in any way.

This is very sad. I think the system could do more to help women after they give birth.
Women who have just become a mum, need help to cope with all the pressure and stress. Some are lucky and have help from the family, others find themselves alone with the baby not knowing how to handle it and we have this tragic ends.

That also the Kia Picanto
to me is reason to serious concern. I do not want to elaborate about my thoughts, but I feel disturbed when reading this

A) she drove, by accident, over a cliff somewhere somehow
B) she somewhere drove, by accident, into the lake
BOTH things are horrible and gruesome but the most likely explanation
in case of BOTH ways, police will find them within two days |
