Cat lovers petition to ban cat fur production

A petition has been launched to ban the production and sale of cat fur products in Switzerland.

According to campaigners, as quoted by Swissinfo, "In September, October, November and December the hunters and the people who work for the tanners go out and shoot all the feral cats or all cats which are 200 metres away from homes" .

The aim of the petition is to bring Switzerland into line with the EU where the production of cat furs will be outlawed in all member states this year. Currently, Switzerland bans the import of cat furs, but allows domestic production and sale.

The petition can be downloaded in English here from www.soschats.org.

I went to an exhibition in the DADA museum in Niederdort the other day.

Next time you have a coffee in the coffee bar just look at what's lying over the fireplace... a skinned-cat-fur!!!

Ouch... nasty!!!!

What about bees? Is it still ok to catch them for shearing? (I've heard they freeze them first; that way you can pinch their backs and the whole fur just slips right off. An hour or so later they wake up and fly much faster.)

Is this thread for real?

Re: Cat lovers petition to ban cat fur production

Apparently, some people believe that sleeping under a cat fur blanket will cure their rheumatism. Cat on the bed seems a preferable option .

Re: Cat lovers petition to ban cat fur production

That's what I thought too, but after a little google searching yes it is real. There is a market for cat fur blankets in Switzerland and it's one of the only European countries where killing feral cats and using there fur is still legal.

But apparently, they've been taking house pets as well. From the article I linked earlier one family had all three of their cats disappear in one day.

The pic looks like an April Fool but it's not.
Apart from their Sun style headlines Swissinfo reports are generally pretty reliable.

Wouldn't it be a little bit more worth while complaining about the Japanese killing Whales in our Southern oceans than crapping on about ferallized domestic animals that are wiping out small native animals populations like what is happening at home in Oz and everywhere else in the world. No I i'm not a greenie i just don't like cats!!!

I don't trust people who don't like cats. But am also a huge proponent of spaying/neutering your animals so things like that don't happen.

Likewise. I found and adopted a stray pregnant female in May 2007, her litter found good homes and have been spayed and neutered. I've adopted two of the kittens and they have given me so much pleasure. I'd hate to think there are nutbags out there legally shooting animals that could be lost, or cats which have a proper home but tend to roam far away into the "killing zone".

The hypocrisy of humans is mind blowing. It's ok to kill some animals and use their skin but not ok to kill cats for fut because they are cute? Take a look in the mirror some of you!

Re: Cat lovers petition to ban cat fur production

Right, I forgot. I should have known that rhythmical remedy would have something 'holier-than-thou' to say concerning this.

I'm opposed to people killing peoples household pets. And yeah, maybe it is hypocritical. Cat's are cute and smart and make good pets and it's a little creepy to have cat fur blankets. But then again I don't have bunny rabbit or cow hide blankets either. But, then again pigs are very smart too. Smarter than dogs actually, it's just unfortunate for them they taste so damn good.

You might also want to take a look in the mirror and realize nobody likes a nay-saying, know-it-all. (see, smiley face, so it negates the smart-*ss comment)

Sorry for my assumption that cows are smart and cute as well. The day majority of the world starts finding cow skin on their feet "creepy" is the day the world would become a peaceful place. I rest my case! Humans are scum of the Earth

Chem if I am classed as a nay sayer for pointing the obvious then so be it You smart ass comments don't bother me so please don't feel obliged to add a smiley
