Re: Shooting incident in Menznau, Luzern

Not surprisingly, the shooter appears to have been an employee of the firm.
Very tragic

Interestingly, not a mention in the foreign press as yet. I wonder if the same would apply if the shooting had occured in the US?

Edit: except for the BBC link above (Paddy, you idiot...)

Well thanks GWB and his buddies the hatred toward Americans(*) has persisted even though the current POTUS's popularity is at an all-time high both inside and outside the U.S.

Personally I never use my American passport except for trips to United States because it really sucks to be an American in the 21st century.

(*) especially if you are a Republican

There are always going to be nutcases in society. Mental health issues affect a lot of people and you're never going to be sure if / when you can expect them to retain full clarity. Even seemingly sane people can have bad days.

Now put a loaded gun in their hands and you have a potential killer.

Ditto all the previous, present and future arguments about firearms. Guns shouldn't have a place in an organized society.

It really sucks to be a colleague, a spouse or a child of one of the dead workers in Menznau right now.

sympathies to the victims, their families and all involved. no matter how old I get and how many of these incidents I read or hear about, I will never understand them.

Re: Shooting incident in Menznau, Luzern

Just in case there are also some others who like me had no idea where this Menznau is, here some information

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menznau

between Wolhusen and Willisau (Jazz Festival town) north-west-west of Luzern, in an area where people with the exception of a few Protestants of Bernese origin are thoroughly Roman-Catholic, where people if rightwing vote CVP and if Leftwing vote FDP, and where people regard everything as either rüüdig guät or rüüdig schlächt. Zürich there is regarded as door to the world, and as a place where people speak a kind of Hochdeutsch and some other disturbing languages. In short a usually very very peaceful land of peaceful farmers with peaceful cows

So that people there must be in total shock as such things are to happen in Zürich or Geneva or Basel but sure not in their place
