Aisha Mohammed was refused 4 times swiss citizenship!

A revolting story taking place in Erlinsbach (AG): Aisha Mohammed has been living for 21 years in Switzerland. The 47years old woman from Pakistan has 3 children all well integrated and going to local schools.
Naturalization requires 3 level of agreements:
- Federal level: they said yes to Aisha
- Cantonal level: they said yes to Aisha
- Communal level: they said 4 times no!

Commune used every time different excuses: she does not speak good enough german, or she called police when a defaming article was published on her in local newspaper......the last one: she does not salute people in the street!
The terrible part is the question from the commune voters: "why does she want to become swiss....we already said no 4 times!!!"

This unacceptable story has made the newspaper in Aargau and was nicknamed "Aisha the Grüzi sinner".
Shame on you commune of Erlinsbach!

PS: her son got the swiss citizenship without problem. they are focusing on the mother.

Re: Aisha Mohammed was refused 4 times swiss citizenship!

That's just plain crazy. With any luck this will shame them into agreeing next time. She should put her application in immediately. Or the Federal government should overrule them and grant it. After all where in the communal requirements does it state she can't call the police or has to greet people? They're just making excuses. They probably don't like that she receives welfare benefits.

Not the first time a story like that is emerging from Aargau. The only advice anyone can give her is to move away from that backward, racist hellhole and try again in a few years in a more civilized area of Switzerland.

Doesn't sound like a very hospitable commune, perhaps she is better off leaving them to their bitterness and bigotry and applying from elsewhere (or does it not work that way?)

There are different rules for every canton and commune. Her problem is that when she leaves this village, the clock will restart again at the next one, and it is another long wait.

In her shoes I would apply as often as possible, and start to greet the biggest racists from across the street: forcing them to wave back to her.

Re: Aisha Mohammed was refused 4 times swiss citizenship!

I went through the comments section of the online articles of Aargauer Zeitung and Blick.ch......and they are nauseous.

The attitude of the local ignorants: they expect her to bow and not to resist....totally disgusting.

I get the feeling there's probably more behind this story than meets the eye. No idea what exactly it could be, though.

That is awful - how on earth can so many people in one commune be against her getting citizenship when the same people must have already voted for her children to be awarded it?

I think the key word is Sozialhilfe.
Still, a bizarre story.

In some comments references are made to the fact that the lady in question has been on social assistance for a long time, a fact which is a big no-no for naturalization in this country. To the best of my knowledge.

k_and_e beat me to it.

Wouldn't she be rejected on federal or cantonal level then?

Or deported? She isn't EU.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. If welfare was the issue surely either Federal or Canton would have said no as well. As for the deportation, are her child born of a Swiss father? Could that be why she/they were allowed to stay?

That's what I thought.
And what about the father of her children, where does he fit into all this and what nationality is he?

I don't think we're getting the full story here.

Afaik (but I'm not sure) the regulations about who pays social assistance/welfare vary by canton, i.e. it might be the canton who bears the cost, or the commune. If the latter is the case, this might be an explanation as to why the commune is turning her down, but neither the state nor the canton…

That is just a guess, though.

No idea about deportation, I guess she's on a C permit, so not sure what the rules are around that.

As bad as this racism is, I figure that she's still better off in Aargau rather than Pakistan because they haven't mobilized packs of angry young men who want to stone a woman to death for farting in public in Erlinsbach just yet.

Agree with the fact. But this argumentation implies a trading of "rights" in a marketplace because she's better off in any case here. She gets "less" rights than other people because in her country things are worse. I don't think that it's the good way to approach it. All foreigners living in this country under swiss law should have same duties and rights regardless of country of origin. It's absolute.

Regarding Sozialhilfe (Castro is gonna hate the language mix here): she's working 50% only and that does not give her enough revenue. I'm speculating that she has probably health problems that won't her work more than 50%. So does that mean only the healthy and rich are naturalized?
