Smoking ban in Zurich from mid 2008

My German is not so good, but would this include restaurants?

This thread will not go the way of other smoking threads - discussion only about the ban in buildings in Zurich, please.

I think that by "Public Buildings" they mean everything, including restaurants. This one is really for Mark Fyvie, he would have enjoyed to see this finally come true. I am personally thrilled.

The ban of smoking in buildings in Zürich will mean young single professionals from Basel will be unable to smoke about the things they like to smoke when visiting Zürich. Like Johnny Cash, I like to walk the line.

Doesn't it mean public buildings of the Canton? So official buildings, hospitals, universities, museums etc, including places where smoking may indeed not be permitted, but currently not legally prohibited. I believe that the ashtrays in the hallway outside my chemistry lab were only removed a couple of years ago at the will of the new director. The cafeteria went smoke-free just last year.

This article would fit with how other cantons have had to put the smoking bans in privately owned and run buildings, like bars, to the people in a referendum.

Re: Smoking ban in Zurich from mid 2008

It's not yet decided. However restaurants aren't included in the list of the original press release. My gut feeling is that canton Zurich won't make a restaurant smoking ban, but such a law could be made on the national level too.

finally! it was about time!

Should have been earlier.
Can't understand why CH is so good in giving examples to other countries (like recycling etc.) but in other things (like this smoking ban issue) is a complete disaster!...

Hi, I'm new to this forum and what an excellent forum it is. A perfect forum for business research.
On the topic of smoking bans, I thought the Swiss were a nation of snuff lovers and that smokers would just switch to snuff as soon as the smoking ban comes into force?
Roderick
you mean you see this as a possible place to punt your snuff?

Yes, I do see Switzerland as a big opportunity for my snuff company and a site like this where I can make contact with English speaking Swiss inhabitants is a great find. In the spirit of this site, any advice about doing business in Switzerland will be gratefully received. Some sites suffer from companies exploiting them as ways to advertise, that is why I am being so reserved.

It's also a disaster when it come to plastic bags. Everything is triple packaged here and then put into a thick plastic bag.

I don't think its a good idea to take a censorship position on smoking discussion or any other controversial topic.

Delete his posts because they are commercial by all means.

You're walking a thin line here. This is not the place to perform any research. The founding member who was fiercely anti tobacco and would not tolerate your attempts here at all.

I have deleted your posts accordingly.

Hi,
I have gone into the 'My Settings' part to change my name, as I can see how it could offend, but can't find how to change it. Can anyone help?
You need to send a request to the administrator in order to get that done. do not create a new account in the meantime, this will only cause havoc.
