I do know, however, an awful lot of very smart kids in their 20s who smoke it. Maybe that says something.
The FBI Struggles to hire hackers who don't smoke weed

Although i read other places alcohol and general drug usage is declining in younger generations.

It's those damned kids and their electronic devices.

Young people need their energy (and concentration) to suceed in life.

I've found in the past that it can aid long bouts of concentration, possibly why it's popular with hackers as linked above. And many, many artists are known to use it as a creativity aid.

I haven't got any scientific facts about weed, and don't really care one way or another, except insofar as it stinks and I don't want anyone who smokes it coming within 5 meters of me.

I do know, however, an awful lot of very smart kids in their 20s who smoke it. Maybe that says something.

Io the other hand, I don't know *any* people I consider above-average intelligence who smoke it in older population groups. Draw your own conclusions.
I've found that many more adults than we think smoke and simply don't talk about it. And with the judgement and stigma that follows, who can blame them. Legalization would go a long way to getting rid of at least that. I've actually had blackout drunk people call me a junky to my face when they saw me light up a spliff. So much of it is based in attitudes and language. Alcohol is considered OK not only because it's legal but because we've practically created a different vocabulary to make it acceptable. It's not a drug, it's alcohol. People don't get high, they get drunk. Addicts aren't addicts, they're alcoholics. People don't overdose, they get alcohol poisoning. Etc.

I don't know if legalization automatically leads to social acceptability. Look at prostitution for example.

Casual alcohol may be socially acceptable, but alcoholism is not. When you see a guy on a park bench downing a bottle of 43% proof grain spirit you don't automatically think "cool guy" and you avoid sitting next to him on that bench if at all you can. If you get several such guys sharing an area in a park for example, you tend to avoid that area as being an alcoholic area, meaning that in a negative way. The same is true if lots of people come to a place to smoke weed. Only you would want to socialize with them even less as you don't want to come home smelling of the stuff (and I think many who smoke it don't realize how repungent that smell is to non smokers). A lot needs to change until this can be transformed into weed being the new champaigne.

I hope not, as I find champagne absolutely disgusting. Refused to have the stuff at my wedding.

Re: News about weed legalization in some CH cities

As a libertarian, I don't really care what people do with themselves, as long as it doesn't impact me in ways I don't like. I wouldn't judge someone who smokes, any more I would someone who drinks. Although I do find people who are buzzed are a lot less likely to get violent, and also have heightened libido. I can't think of anything negative about it. Can you? I would only refrain from asking them to take on any critical tasks.

I only read the entire page after posting...it's a hypothetical future headline to catch readers eye. Booooo. Knew it could not be true.
