Kantonsrat Elections - April 12, 2015 a rant

Dear candidates, pretty much without exception, your election campaigns are crap.

You'd think that wannabe and current politicians blessed with über-democracy would have learnt how to actually win over prospective voters by now. So I read the bundle of flyers that have been building into a veritable pyramid of color on my dining room table, but all I read is the frigging same thing.

Candidate is married/divorced/separated, has 0, 1, 2, 3, 4.75 children, some of who may still be living at home. They have a steady job as a lawyer/farmer/teacher/marketing expert. They've held a variety of key roles in their towns and canton, whether this be the local basketball team or Fasnacht committee. Their politics aren't too far left, nor right, but they're not centrist either. They are all competent, fair, never judgmental or irrational. Their billboard images have all been given the same Photoshopped white teeth syndrome.

But what the hell actually interests these people in becoming a part of the Kantonsrat? Do you have any fire in your belly? What pisses you off and what are you proposing to do about it?

Example: I want to select a candidate who has the balls to stand up for Zürich Airport and get things moving with runway extensions and increased operating hours. But try as I might, no one is talking shop. They're choosing cute and cuddly, non-committal language so as not to potentially upset anyone.

Right now I'd even consider voting for my local IS man if he'd at least promise a decent beheading ceremony Friday evenings in front of the town hall.

and while the SVP candidates look like a group of millionaire-sons students taking part in a new Musical "Proletarier der Welt vereinigt Euch" the SP candidates look like aspiring Sunday School Teachers

I don't know, at least they don't go around making promises about what they will do or try to defend and then not do anything about it.

Sure ? ALL aspiring politicians go around ( in the Bible it is und irrten ziellos umher ) and promise all the very best, and on advertisements all spread a good mood. They are not lying, they make politics
