Swiss government ethics committee debates dignity of plants

As the title of the thread says, the Swiss government's ethics committee has been asked to debate and make recommendations on how to determine the dignity of plants.

The article in Nature is an interesting read. Here's a quote...

"The Swiss federal government's ethics committee on non-human biotechnology has mapped out guidelines to help granting agencies decide which research applications deeply offend the dignity of plants — and hence become unfundable."

Re: Swiss government ethics committee debates dignity of plants

My mother-in-law has a plot of land that has practically been confiscated from her. She still owns the deed, but she's not allowed to do ANYTHING with it because a particular plant grows there. It's so "rare" that when we went to take a look at a sample, we could not even find any.
