Motorcyclist chased by Police and given a beating

This happened near St Gallen last year but the video (GoPro from the riders helmet) has only just been uploaded (by the culprits son). He was riding without a license and behaving like a prized dick (speeding and riding dangerously through built up areas) when he the police tried to stop him. But he rode off and the police gave chase, finally stopping him and venting a little anger, both verbal and physical.

Article here (in German - ignore the first couple of GIF's, watch the video). The first 12 minutes of this video is him "showing off" his toy but worth watching if you have the time, then the police action starts.

The riders excuse? His business went bankrupt, he had burn out and couldn't feed his family and got no help from the state, so this was a cry for help. It happened on his sons birthday.

Did the police go over the top? They seem to be behaving quite mildly in comparison to most countries although I can't follow the insults they were supposedly throwing at him. Comments in the article seem mostly to be behind the police action.

Is it a poor camera or did it really get dark in 15 minutes?

It gets darker & the car lights get brighter!
Only a few cameras will give a good picture without any light.

Re: Motorcyclist chased by Police and given a beating

The idiot broke the law and endangered pedestrians and road users.
Still, punching and kicking aren't on the police job description (or shouldn't, anyway). The court should be the one dictating the punishment.

To me, that's a (mild) case of police brutality.

He was resisting arrest. Once he was up he said. Yeah let's see when it's just me and you on the street. Do not think you will win then.

Ah, you didn't translate that bit

Still, law enforcement should be a bit less free dishing out punches, imho.

I think in all the excitement, he forgot to deliver the package ..... certainly didn't seem to get a signature.

Where ever it was it seemed to be fire brigade training evening - practising lane closing and restrictions ..... what bad timing.

Re: Motorcyclist chased by Police and given a beating

Above was what the police said.
He said. [unclear], ,Grmmbl, Verfluecht, brmm, hmpf, puff, [?!?], Schaafsack, uuahf, hmpf, uuhuhuuju, Versuechs, grmbl, hushwaduschi, hmpf, Ja ! Machs doch machs doch, hrrmp, so hä zäme bisch stark? gseh di mal allei uff dä strass, gsehn mr wer stärker isch, grmbm, [?!?], Philipp, humpf puff.

Schaafsack - Sheep scrotum.
Versuechs - Try it. When they wanted to lift him the first time
Ja! Machs doch machs doch - Yes! Do it, do it. As a reply on one of the many "I will crack your skull"
hä zäme bisch stark? gseh di mal allei uff dä strass, gsehn mr wer stärker isch, - Yeah, together you are strong? See you once alone in the street. Will see who is stronger. That was when they had him up and before they removed the helmet.

Re: Motorcyclist chased by Police and given a beating

According to 20min.ch the bike had no license plates.

After falling off the bike he got up again, helmet still on. So the police would probably have been unable to identify him, had he gotten away. The chase seems to have gone on for multiple hours (the video starts in broad daylight, ends at nighttime), with him bypassing at least a few (rather poorly built, IMHO) blockades. I'm sure the policemen are aware of stuff like this.

Taken together, I find the reaction understandable. That's no excuse, yet I think it should be taken into account.

Hahaha, he got what he deserved there.
The police did well to keep up in a van, he should have gone cross country on that bike.

Not quite, the actual police chase starts at 12 minutes when it's already night. The earlier stuff in daylight is just him being a prat.

Well, he had had his "fun" - and then he got what he was "asking" for.
Serves him right.
People like this also put the police in danger, having to high-speed chase after him, before he causes real damage to someone else.

It's an odd relationship the bonkers bike and his son have.

Obviously quite a small bike for the cops to have caught up with him...

Re: Motorcyclist chased by Police and given a beating

What we have learned from this video is that St Gallen police stations are only one 1 level and that suspects will be safe from falling down stairs.

However it can be very difficult to get suspects into the back of a BMW saloon.

I don't think he was a very proficient rider, I think I read in the article that he hadn't passed his test. That, or he actually wanted to get caught because he doesn't seem to be trying very hard to get away.
