Motel one zürich

Motel ONE, a München based Hotel Group, will open a 400 rooms Hotel, the largest in German speaking Switzerland. In what originally was the telephone Center in Zürich in 1910 and then for almost a century the post Office of Zch SELNAU in Brandschenkestrasse halfway between Enge Rail Station and Stauffacherplatz. There also will be one Hotel of the Group in Basel.

Motel One expandiert in die Schweiz

Owner of the place is Swiss Prime Site and the new Hotel will be "Low Budget" like Ibis and Novotel

NOT a Connection, but I went to School just accross the road for a year for a Special course which brought me into secondary School, and used the post Office there often between 1967 and 1975 . I found the gradual decline of the building-complex rather saddening. The area HAS potential but rather un-used.

I hope that the new Hotel will improve the area. In fact, between Adliswil and Selnau, over the past 5 decades many Hotels have disappeared

Difficult to say. The wages at Novotel and Ibis etc have never been a Topic and those places are cheaper than Motel ONE

Re: Motel one zürich

I worked for a big hotel chain here in switzerland, knowing the wages are GAV rate at most hotels here in switzerland, which are under pressure to cut the costs. These wages are around 3356 sfr before tax, so many of these workes rely on gratuity, to make a few sfr , to cover their costs of living.
Motel One is similar to easyjet, not many frills to make gratuity.
So these workers will likely end up having a second job .
Motel One will add up pressure to the market in zurich, because there will be around 2000 more beds to be filled in zurich in 2017.
If you can't fill your beds at a certain rate, you will loose heaps of money.
The average rate in summer in zurich is pretty low (around 100sfr per room), because there is no demand, only tourists from asia(india , china) will be flown over, getting breakfast for around 10sfr(split from the 100 sfr, normally a breakfast will be around 35 sfr).

Re: Motel one zürich

from their website, Zurich is not due to open before Spring 2017 and Basel Spring 2016.

Seems to be basic budget hotel, no meeting rooms, restaurant etc, though I believe may serve some basic breakfast somewhere & mention of a bar & 24 hour reception.

Re: Motel one zürich

Motel one offers in germay standard breakfast for around 8.50 Euros,
the rooms don't have much to offer, the purpose of the "hotel" is getting a cheap sleep in the city center.
The staff is reduced to the bare minimum, everything what can be done is outsourced (technic, Rooms maintance, House Keeping).

I for one welcome our new German overlords

What is the Problem ? The Gotthardbahn was financed by Germans. The CS originally was 50% German. Swiss is 100% Lufthansa owned. When ETH and UZH started, roughly 80% of the professors were Germans. Mr Baur (Baur-au-Lac Baur-en-Ville) came from Austria-Hungary, The CIC of CH in WW-ONE, Ulrich Wille, was a German officer. The WW2-CIC, Henri Guisan, studied at the University of Stuttgart. B U T Mr Ackermann at Deutsche Bank AG was not the only Swiss national in a leading position in Germany. Mövenpick became German owned 20 years ago but the Mr Fink who commands the Company has lived in Zürich most of his life and regards Zürich as his "home-city". And most people forget that Mr Nestle came from the Kingdom of Württemberg, that Mr Maggi was an Italian as was Engineer Boveri while Engineer Brown was a British Expat. General Dufour for years was an officer of the French army while Mr Chevrolet as a Swiss national. Hordes of directors of Hotels and Transport companies around the globe are Swiss nationals. Uncountable companies around the globe are owned by Swiss companies

Re: Motel one zürich

no need to say that the process of international interdipendence is a good thing, it also decreases the risk of a war happening by making them too expensive. The important thing is that it's not one-sided.

Re: Motel one zürich

They are a great chain and I like their American sized beds and giant breakfast buffet. They are a safe bet around Europe. If they offer their standard nightly rate (about 80 bucks) in Zurich they will not be able to brace themselves.
