I don't normally arrive sufficiently early to have time to check out any lounges. For me the whole point of priority boarding is to be able to arrive scandalously late and jump all the queues. I don't really see why people would want to pay more just to wait longer.
You clearly don't travel much for work then... I will not go to the airport hours early from my home. But when I am on a business trip and the last meeting is over do I regularly end up at an airport 3 hours before the return flight. Having access to a comfortable seat with plug to charge the laptop, decent wifi and food plus drinks is absolutely essential.

Re: Swiss airline prices to rise

Priority boarding will matter even more now that people may bring bigger/fuller carryons to avoid paying the luggage fees. Although Swiss (as all other LH group of companies) are pretty vigilent when it comes to weighing carryons, it may get tougher to find over head space.

Re: Swiss airline prices to rise

Currently i am flying with easyjet or BA, in august i did a trip with Brussels Airlines/LH to Billund /DK, the service flight to Billund via Brussels was around
45 min late(so i got only 4 mins to catch the bus to the train station). The return leg via frankfurt was overbooked (from frankfurt to Bale), they offered
a voucher of 250 euros and a train ticket.
I tried to exchange the voucher in Bale and London without succes.
I emailed customer relations of LH where to exchange the voucher, the reply was the they are currently busy and can't handle the issue.

If i can avoid LH/Star Alliance , i will go for BA/One World.
if there is no BA, i will go for Easyjet or by Train.

They have introduced the bag size rack at the same time and the gate agents are pretty hot on checking bags.

But for the first time I've noticed the extra cost for hold luggage, 19.00 per leg. I don't think that's too bad if it means that carry on fairs are as cheap as I just got. (I opted for a case on the return for my shopping )
If relevant to anyone, please note that the free extra bag with frequent flyer status does NOT apply to "Light" fares. You have to pay the "Classic" upgrade for any hold luggage at all. But once you pay for one bag, you get the additional free bag included.

Zurich Kloten seems clued into this but not Heathrow... who don't seem to realise there is a split fare system in place. So if you're carrying two bags on a Classic fare, be prepared for a long discussion on whether the 2nd is permitted and insist they speak to the service centre (unpleasant experience at LHR this weekend).

Re: Swiss airline prices to rise

Well, everything has two sides I guess... when I lived in Asia did I mostly fly Singapore Airlines. The company offers 30kg for eco and 40 for business. Having a gold membership gets you 50% on top of that and the top level (Does Swiss call it "senator" or something) a full 100% extra.

When I was queuing in Cambodia the last time did the dude in front of me took clearly advantage of his 80kg baggage allowance and checked in half a living room. As in: an actual living room with chairs and all. Took ten minutes to check him in. Priority lane my arse...

Last month, I was checking prices, and in the end went with Easyjet again.

ZRH - Amsterdam - return - Fr 800 for family of 4 over Christmas and New Year
Basel - Amsterdam - Gatwick - Zurich - Fr 500 for same period!
Why spend two weeks with the in-laws when you can spend one week with them and a week of fun with your little sister
If you are going to visit 2 different cities, do check the prices on Swiss or Lufthansa. City pairs where they monopolize eg., ZRH-FRA can be very expensive on a return ticket. But if you do ZRH-FRA-LCY-ZRH, it can be less than half the price. I try to schedule my trips this way.

But of course it doesn't work with Amsterdam...

I have seen the bag gauges. They look like a copy of the ones Easyjet and Ryanair use. I haven't seen anybody being strictly challenged though.

I flew Aerolineas once, this was pre 9/11 and hand luggage rules were being interpreted very liberally. There was one guy who actually had a huge stack of IKEA flatpacks as carry ons and they completely blocked the aisle and the food trolley couldn't come through and all the stewardesses were frantically struggling to find a place to stow them..

Re: Swiss airline prices to rise

Update:

Got my exchange to an easy cash card (maestro), same value as the voucher, at the ticket desk of lufthansa in zurich.
The next step is go to an ATM with a maestro symbol and take out the money or go shopping.
I hope there are no fees at the ATM using the cash card, otherwise I have to visit the ticket desk again.
