Re: Church bells opponent denied Swiss citizenship!

It's just plain common sense to study the process of naturalisation of the country you live in and intend to apply for citizenship- and then, sort of take this into account. Now I'm happy to agree the system of approval in CH may well be archa´c, maybe all sorts of things- but it is what it is. As said, when I applied fro UK citizenship I had to swear ma allegiance to the Queen and her descendants. Would have been plain daft of me to refuse- or to go in on the day with placards calling for a Republic, wouldn't it? If she has lived here for 30+ years, she should know how it works.

Nowadays, would i swear my allegiance to the Royal family holding the Bible in my right hand- probably not.You either play the local game, or you don't - is what I mean by accepting consequences.

Re: Church bells opponent denied Swiss citizenship!

Not forgetting the cow bells she protested against! She created quite a discussion in the Dutch community in Switzerland

Thankfully the local game allows her to make an appeal.

Sure, but sometimes you have to pick your fight - prove a point, or go with the flow/accommodate those who are deciding whether you are getting the stamp/little book or not.

She could have made her point after she got the little red book, no?
In fact she could have done it much more effectively, including for example raising a referendum or other formalised Swiss mechanisms available to citizens.

I can imagine an awful lot of countries doing exactly that. Including several that will deny you your right to life for protesting.

Not according to Cedric Wermuth:

The Aargauer SP National CÚdric Wermuth can not understand that voting against the Swiss passport: "And again, a decision will fall in front of the first court. Naturalizations are away from GM and urn! "He wrote on Twitter.

Is there any other country where the citizens gets to exercise their democratic rights in deciding who they want to be a fellow citizen? Yay for a democratic victory!

Hardly a guarantee.

Just grandstanding by some socialist politicain.

Meanwhile, awaiting a response from my Aargau dwelling spawn on what she thinks of the situation.

It always goes down well if trying to have a 'discussion' with EDL types shouting that they are ANGLO-SAXONS and you reply, yes indeed....immigrant then...

Yes, I know, as I've seen BlackAdder 3 many times.

Err, actually, no, not in Canada.

Re: Church bells opponent denied Swiss citizenship!

I don't think being involved in local politics is a reason for NOT giving citizenship, she just chose the wrong side. There is an abuse of church bells since they were automatized in the 70s, it's a well known problem and source of fights in many communes, sometimes it causes noise pollution, but compromises can be made.
True that people should be more careful when they move though, this doesn't apply only to bells but also bars etc.
