The bells at 6:02am have been measured at 52-55dB in front of Nancy Horton's apartment, roughly the sound level of an ordinary conversation at 1m distance. Nonetheless in her complaint she had called them unbearable and detrimental to one's health.

Interestingly enough she only issued the "Immissionsklage" (some complaint) after having moved not once, but twice within the same commune.

This brings up the question: What's the measurement ,when Nancy has a argument with her husband

Well, I don't know about you guys, but I've been glad that cows are wearing bells more than once.
Like when I was crossing a field in the mountains while hiking, enjoying the landscape, humming happily in the fresh air, when suddenly I hear, from behind (they always sneak up from behind! (the cows I mean)) glingalingALINGALING -- no, it's not a christmas carol, it's a cow, at full speed, and wanting to cuddle. As it was not a horse (well, now we know why horses don't wear bells in Switzerland), after much reflection, I decided to run to a nearby bunch of trees and bushes and hide in there. Luckily there were no witnesses.
So, yay for cow bells!
cows injure more people than wolves, you did good.

Re: Church bells opponent denied Swiss citizenship!

From Argovian daughter (who is a triple-national):

"I don't know what to think, looking at the fact that she's been living here for the past 30 year and still not a Ch citizen is probably not correct, then again she comes to our country and wants to change our WAYS? she's the one that moved to a town where it's the town citizens that decide who becomes a citizen, and it's her fault she went against these people, it's like if I were to move to England and start a petition to stop the people from drinking TEA…it's a stupid idea!"

Which part exactly, the moving to England part or the drinking tea part?

I'm sure that would change if we put bells around the wolves' necks.

Odile your favourite past time is making stuff up so no apologies at all. Especially since the below quote pretty much proves you wrong since the last time I checked solicitors do not wear costumes like you imagined.

Even when my SO got her citizenship in 2008/2009 there weren't any costumes and the ceremony was done in a tiny council room. She got a free pen and the guy who signed her certificate was delightful.

Quote:

Yep. IIRC you had to do it in front of a solicitor/commissioner of oaths (many/most solicitors are one of those) and get it certified somehow.

Porkie pies?!? I had to go to a special Commissioner for Oaths and I can assure you the Commissioner, who looked and dressed like Captain Mannering was taking the whole thing VERY seriously- had I only smiled he would have called the cops. That ceremony was totally compulsory at the time, and I had to swear on the Bible. You were probably not born then! And there was no swapping of driving licence either- you had to do it al again.
I also love the notion that you were going to get arrested for smiling. More porkie pies

Re: Church bells opponent denied Swiss citizenship!

Captain Mannering in civvies he definitely was, old office, very pompous and officious- not smiling, in fact bursting into fits of laughter- was hard (I did as soon as I got out of his office) - but it was clear it was not the right thing to do. I swear he was married to Mrs Bucket.

You sound more and more like Cameron in your old age

at 7am at 80db every morning is enough to make anyone hate these damn churches!
At 7 am...? You should contact the local authorities as it looks like the bell mechanism might be broken if it rings 198 times at that time of the morning. Are you sure you are in Switzerland? Either that or you are stuck between 28.3 churches (or there is a bad echo where you live...).

I think where she went completely wrong, was that she didnt have millions in the bank. ,
ok only partly not completely. ok maybe only a small nail in her coffin.

tina-turner-become-swiss

personally i find the whole bell oposition a bit petty, wasting locals time with that nonsense, now if shed opposed islamic minarets like the majority... why didnt she do that? or burkhas.. its easy to pick on a benign religion in a benign country, she should move to saudi arabia carry on a campaign to ban minarets and burkahs and then ask for saudi citizenship.

Not according to Cedric Wermuth:

The Aargauer SP National Cédric Wermuth can not understand that voting against the Swiss passport: "And again, a decision will fall in front of the first court. Naturalizations are away from GM and urn! "He wrote on Twitter.
Any chance that you could do a little more than just using Google translate to try and get something meaningful in English please?

Remember that Odile is even older than me and she would have naturalised in the 70s or 80s. Back then a significant number of solicitors still did dress and appear like that.

Thank you Baboon, indeed-in 1972 in Stoke-on-Trent. Dark suit and bow tie, combined with that pompous attitude of Captain Mannering. Of course he wouldn't have called the cops if I had smiled- but the atmosphere was hugely formal and somber.

I took the 'porky pies' and rofl with humour- but I truly do not appreciate getting red rep blatantly caling me a repetitive liar.

What saddens me most is that even a lot of the veterans on this forum believe she does not 'deserve' to be Swiss because she dared to criticize certain Swiss traditions and foreigners are not allowed to do that. Is this the Swiss democracy that is being trumpeted all the time?
Really?

I think most are saying it is dumb to vocally complain about something and then say "can I join the club?".

Do you think that is clever? I certainly don't. And based on my long term experience here, I definitely think it is dumb.

I'm a huge supporter of direct democracy. But it simply doesn't work when you have to decide over one's civil rights. And there's not even a quorum? I mean 144 votes casted against over a total population of over 3000. Let's say 2700 have voting rights. This means around 5-6% of the population ultimately decided over the issue.
206 had voting rights, as is clearly stated in the article, not 2700.

Quote:
View Post
Anyway 206 votes in a town of 3500, of which 144 against, sounds like mobbing to me
206 was the number of eligible voters, as only people who are both resident and citizens of the town are eligible to vote on such matters.

So how's that mobbing?

Tom

Where I live, every single morning at 7am, for 5 whole minutes. The noise is unbearable with windows open. I would think that they are freakin' religious zealots, but of course I should not say that, otherwise I am at risk of not understanding the values of the community. 5 minutes! I bet no priest could do that before electricity
