Re: Illegal To Insult Head of a Foreign State

Previously only attached to running-track sport's icons, now it applies almost everywhere ...

While checking something else, I stumbled across the fact that it's illegal in Switzerland to publicly insult the head of a foreign state. Which I thought was interesting.

One of OH's ancestors signed Charles 1 death warrant, thereby being at least partially responsible for the public, physical removal of the head of a head of state...

Should he be worried?!

Insulting a foreign state

Any person who publicly insults a democratic foreign state in the person of its democratically elected head of state, the members of its democratically elected government, its diplomatic representatives, its official delegates to a diplomatic conference taking place in Switzerland, or one of its official representatives to an international organisation or department thereof based or sitting in Switzerland is liable to a custodial sentence not exceeding three years or to a monetary penalty. Unless that person (or persons) has refused or haggled over the amount of money owed when determining the international location of a major team sporting event, possibly including a round ball, which may, or may not be kicked.
My true vocation is changing laws. Now, I just need 99'999 more signatures to get this into parliament.

Oh bugger. Wait, is the head of state of the UK the Queen or the PM? Either way I'm done for, but I'd like to know which one I can insult with impunity.

As long as he didn't insult the head at anytime, he's OK.

Well, at least he knows who the UK head of state is, so can insult her as and when it pleases him. I'm Irish so can be rude about the whole bally lot of 'em.
He has a rather ghastly tankard that's in the shape of Charles 1's head and drinks from it. Does that count as insulting the head?

Also interesting is that you can't insult Switzerland's head of state, as Switzerland doesn't have one.

I'm sure Sepp Blatter once said that he was Switzerland's head of state.
