Interesting though isn't it. On paper Nordic and countries like Switzerland score high - lots of money, good infra, low crime etc. but when you ask people in countries to rate their own country, which will be a good indicator of the level of happiness and satisfaction they feel living there, rich is not always best.

Germany? Seriously? Well I didn't bother to look at how they calculate the rankings, and most of my day-to-day knowledge comes from EF and reddit.

"Canadians pride themselves in encouraging all of their citizens to honor their own cultures"

I wonder how much pride that would remain if they were dealing with the same magnitude of asylum seekers as Germany does.

Yes, it looks like Switzerland didn't deserve a place in the top 60 countries, I know things are getting bad here, but I never realised just how bad they are!

Those articles are aimed at diverting expats attention from sweet countries like the one that we happened to live in, so that there's less traffic to paradise

Re: the best country in the world is ...

This rating is based on financial stability which , sometimes, is not great thing to have since with high income there is always (damn it!) high cost of living, taxes, social security deduction etc. There is always a hand in the pocket that grabs your money before you know. And definitely none of these countries fits " ziti best" description, best is so subjective. I can go on for hours talking about what is best country for me while living in one of the top three from this rating. Believe me, i will not be talking about my current host country

Some associated notes:

1. The nation of Switzerland has a high suicide rate compared to many other European countries such as Norway, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.

2.Not sure if anyone already noticed, but walking around in the swiss cities, seems like they have a very high density of psychiatrists. Seems like there is very high demand for them here...

Re: the best country in the world is ...

A famous British poet and playwright* wrote that your Mum & Dad mess your life up. I don't know if he ever came here but he sums up life in Switzerland.

Young people here are under enormous strain to conform and to succeed in their studies and careers. If they fail to meet the Swiss specification they sometimes choose suicide. If they are fragile they suffer mental problems. But, we are rarely shown the blacker side to Swiss life.

The fact that it's legal and relatively easy for terminally ill people to end their own lives has quite a bit to do with that statistic. Looked at from that perspective, I think that it's a positive aspect of Switzerland...
